I am an senior undergraduate at public university in the New York City area. I am applying to graduate programs in philosophy for the Fall 2013 semester. My question is the following one. Does anyone have any idea how many applicants there are in the US in total? In other words, what is the size of the North American philosophy grad program applicant pool? I ask because most, if not all, of the top 20 programs receive more than 200 applications. Some of the top 10 ranked programs receive over 300 aplications. What I am getting at is how much overlap is there between, say, NYU, Rutgers, UCLA and USC.
