Hi everyone, I've not been successful with applications this year and so am planning to reapply in the next cycle. I'm just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about the personal statement. I'm an international student (from the UK) and am trying to determine what sort of tone to strike with my statement. I was advised that US schools expect a much more personal narrative-like statement with information about your personal drives, motivations etc. Perhaps some of you successful applicants could comment? Would be a great help for me!

Hello all, I spoke to GSAS (again!) and was told that english PhD decisions should be being released by March 23rd as the committee will need to turn its attention to the MA applications by that point. Hope that helps!

Really hoping for Northeastern. You have any news to report on the decisions front? I don't think the schools would react well if I were to call them again... tempting though

To Mr Grimwig who posted on February 16th... I can see that you've been very successful with your applications - congrats I'm still waiting on a couple of decisions but am pretty sure i'll be re-applying next year. If it's not too much trouble, do you think you could post a few tips about how you went about writing your personal statement? Content etc? Would be a huge help. I'm an international so it's quite a challenge to judge how to handle American schools. Thanks!!!

Am waiting on this and Brandeis (although have pretty much given up on that one as Br. has already sent out some acceptances). Fingers crossed!! Hopefully they will put us out of our misery soon

I emailed the DGS AND I received the exact same message as the person who posted on Feb 17th above... really don't know whether no news at this point means there is still hope. My suspicion is that Brandeis is going to keep us in limbo for a while longer yet. I'm trying really hard not to get my hopes up.

I called them last Friday. English admin lady (Melissa Daigle?) said they are close to finalizing and should be releasing decisions over the next couple of weeks...

Hey everyone... does anyone have any leads reg Brown AMS? Have seen one acceptance... do we think the moment of acceptance has passed? Am so tired by the whole process
