I received an email note Friday night from UCSD stating that I was in. The faculty member said that funding was still up in the air, however.

Still, I'm excited. Here's to the next step!

I contacted the UCI Drama department today and he said that committee members will contact who they're interested in for interviews by late February, otherwise "official letters" (meaning rejections) will be sent out in late March/early April. Perhaps the two schools are on similar timelines?

That could very well be. When I interviewed a couple of weeks ago at UCSD, I was told they'd be interviewing for the next few weeks, and that decisions would be going out shortly after that. I suppose (taking them at their word) that would place UCSD's admissions notifications at early to mid-March, but I can't say for sure.

I'm in a similar boat as many of you above. I am working in a great paying job with great benefits in a field that, while interesting, is not what I want to be doing for the rest of my life. I just had my interview yesterday, and if I get in, I will almost certainly take it, but I'm not super happy at the prospect of not having the money that I currently make.

I realize I'm counting my chickens before they hatch, and all I can do is wait and see whether I get in and what (if any) the offer is. Still, it's a tough choice.

Have you heard anything out of UCI? I thought about applying there too, and I may next year if I don't get into the UCSD side.

If it is helpful to anyone, I applied to the UCSD end of the joint doctoral program with UCI. I was contacted last week to come in this coming Thursday for an interview.

We shall see what happens.
