  1. Hello everyone,

I'll be applying to Fall 2016, and I'm interested in (agro)environmental history. I'm from outside US and I was thinking in UW Madison, any suggest?

What exactly in (agro)environmental history? Could you share your regional, temporal interests and questions you are asking?

  2. Hi all. I'll also be applying for History PhD programs this coming season. I'm specifically interested in Late Imperial Chinese History, with a particular focus on a sub field known as "New Qing History."

My situation is a little different from those of you who are finishing up your undergrad right now. I'm currently enrolled i a relevant terminal MA program here in LA, and I'd love to continue into a PhD program here as well. So I'll be consumed with applications like the rest of you, but my primary focus right now is to impress my adviser here at the same university in hopes that she'll look favorably upon my PhD application this Fall! So much about PhD program admissions can hinge on a personal relationship, so I'm really hoping the time I've spent here and the work I've done with this professor will help me a lot during the application process.

Besides that, for the fields of my interest I'm looking at Georgetown, UVA, Vanderbilt, Johns Hopkins, Harvard, and Yale among others.

    Hi kindkw123,

I presume you are considering working with Jim Millward in Georgetown. You can pm me about the program here and what working with Profs. Millward and Carol Benedict (and other historians here) is like.

  3. Congratulations on getting accepted to FIU, JTE!

I finally got my last rejection letter today, from Wisconsin-Madison. It came under weird circumstances: the envelope arrived in a plastic bag printed with an apology from the post office for damaging the mail, and it apparently had been opened with a letter opener! My mail has never been tampered with before (to my knowledge), so why in the world did that happen?

That said, this is the end of this cycle for me, and I'm happy with my acceptances. I only opened an account here less than two months ago, but I wanted to thank everyone here for being so thoughtful, helpful, and sympathetic toward each other. These threads were a great source of advice during the application process, and I think there are many students out there (like me) who quietly browse the forums and find humor, relief, and inspiration during stressful times. You people are awesome!

Wondering whether you will choose UCSB or come here to DC.Congratulations on your acceptances!

  4. Hello!

I am applying to study pre-modern Chinese history. Anyone else in East Asian history???? We seem to be pretty rare around here >< I really want someone to exchange information with

My top choices are Harvard, Columbia, Stanford, and Princeton. I am applying to other safer schools too.

I am currently an undergrad at McGill

Hi Ashlee! Can you be more specific about what your interests are within pre-modern Chinese history (which to me could be anything before the late nineteenth century? Or are you simply applying to the best schools in general?

  5. Has anyone heard from Georgetown, George Washington, Maryland, George Mason or Notre Dame?

As posted earlier, all Georgetown admits and waitlists were sent out already after the February 15 graduate committee meeting. The prospective student day is next Monday.

  6. For those waiting for Georgetown: Once the committee has made decisions during the meeting the POI normally emails the successful applicant. So it's quite possible you could hear from your POI tomorrow. Good luck!
