  1. How odd. I only was asked two questions: "What will you be studying at Cornell University?" and "I see you have financial support, is this right?" Before getting a: "OK, I will approve your visa."

Hmm..Have you emailed the program coordinator about accepting the offer? I emailed the Department as well as submitted my offer online, and I received my NetID two days later. On a side note, I've been offered Maplewood (which is quite expensive!) for housing this year - anyone else going to live there?
  3. Didn't bother preparing after I looked at what words would come out. Motivation: I did Mathematics at undergraduate level, so didn't bother to study for Quantitative section. Also being an avid reader since young (read through classics, contemporary fiction, popular sci-fi/fantasy authors, Project Gutenberg), most of the words tested were already familiar. So perhaps you could say I've been preparing since high school for the Verbal part. Those which weren't could be guessed from prefixes / suffixes / context. Went by gut feeling during the test. I was lucky during the test though - both AW questions focused on topics quite close to me - and dare I say even relevant to what I studied, so I wrote quite well. My scores: Verbal 163 (93%) Quantitative 170 (99%) Analytical Writing 5.5 (96%) If you're an avid reader and can do maths - don't bother preparing.

That is true. However, my plan at the moment is to spend first year trying to find good accommodation for second year onwards. What I have heard is that the good houses are usually taken by October-ish, so would be quite difficult (but admittedly not impossible) to find one now. Besides, as a first year, I guess having accommodation relatively close to campus is a plus - can't be smaller than my undergrad one

I've had an email from (on campus) Housing, and here's the gist of the email: An email with the following information is expected to be sent out to all applicants tomorrow. We just recently began assigning new residents, a process which takes several weeks. We plan to have the bulk of the assignments completed by mid-April, although assignments will continue to be made after that date. Students receiving an offer (we send them by email) will have 1 to 2 weeks to sign a contract online or decline the offer. In any event, we’ll provide you with an update at the end of April.

I received my NetID email today, three days after I confirmed my decision that I was going to Cornell.

I had trouble submitting my response too, but I emailed the Department and they acknowledge there's some error. It's fixed for me though. I'll be heading there this Fall to do Statistics - just accepted their offer today.
  8. Anyone who's coming here in Fall? I've been accepted to do a Statistics PhD here!
