  1. Go where the research interests you and where you feel most at home. You'll make the right decision just as long as it's the right decision for you . Go where they will treat you nice. You'll know the right school when you see it. Go with your gut. Trust your heart. bla bla bla, you get the drill .
  2. I second this! Anyone have any insight? I'm deciding between here and GSK in NYC. Madison seems like a great place to study, but is it a city that you can outgrow? Also, rent seems pretty pricey for a 24k/yr stipend =(, or does that go a little farther in Madison than I think?
  3. I'm in the same boat! The better fit for me is only offering 24.5k (UW-Madison) while the other school is offering 33k (Sloan-Kettering) >_<. I don't want to be broke but I also want to be happy . . . I'm still fighting with the decision!!! (Even though 33k doesn't go far in NYC, housing is subsidized, insurance is free along with a few other perks. . . that's not necessarily the case @ UW). I hope you end up coming to the right decision . . . sadly "right" is very subjective and not always clear =(.
  4. Grats! I was just accepted into their Translational Bio & Molecular Medicine program today =).
  5. I didn't feel like I was "drilled" by my interviewers. It was more of a conversation. Of course it is different with every professor. One asked me questions and directed the conversation . . . the other told me to "make my application 3D" which was difficult because I didn't know where to start or what to highlight. The conversation ended well though and his research was fabulous so once he started talking about himself things went great. One piece of advice . . . PI's LOVE to talk about themselves . . . so when in doubt ask them about their research =). Good luck!!!
  6. That's true. The only cowboy hat I saw was at the airport, haha! I did notice I would need a car, which I don't think would be too hard to manage considering a grad student showed me a very spacious apt for $700/mo, a few minutes from campus . . . that paired with a $29,000 salary I don't think it would be hard to afford payments on a pre-owned. I have a car now, but it desperately needs to be traded in (if I go to Houston) or sold (if I go to NYC).
  7. I just interviewed there for the TBMM program. I had a really great time and I hope they say yes. I'm not sure how I feel about living in TX, but the cost of living is great. I heard they were interviewing about 40 students for a class of 12 or so (TBMM, not sure about Immuno). They were very nice though so just be yourself and it should work out. Good luck!!!
  8. Not true. I submitted my app w/o the subjects. They emailed me asking if they were coming in late and I admitted to not taking them. A few days ago I got an interview request via e-mail. Guess it wasn't THAT big of a deal after all. goes to show you the application is a package deal . . . great parts can make up for deficiencies elsewhere.
