  1. I guess I was looking for career impacts for academia or industry, not just departmental impacts. Thanks though!
  2. I find that talking to many different people tends to help me understand situations more fully.
  3. As far as available courses I found a few for next semester. I still have to take a total of 3 courses by the end of the next school year. So maybe 2 in the fall and 1 in the spring.
  4. I talked to my advisor and he said that it would be okay to drop it saying that no one really cares about your classes once you graduate. I just wanted to see if there were others out there that are good with that statement. I talked with the professor and they is pretty much repeats what they said in class and just does not answer any emails with any questions that I might have regarding course material. all in all the professor is rather unhelpful. Not to mention they do not and back assignments and tests until a month and a half later.
  5. It is a "W." It was due to poor grades up to this point and lack of assistance from the professor or anyone in the class the entire time. But I guess it boils down to fact that I would probably get a C in the course which would make the course not count toward the degree and I would have to take another course to try and satisfy the requirement. Not to mention there would be a C on my transcript. This is my only "W" thus far.
  6. Does anyone know how detrimental a grade of a "W" is in graduate school for chemistry?
  7. Does anyone know how accurate www.myedu.com is a showing past grade distributions for particular courses at various institutions?
  8. As a possible answer to my own question, it would seem as though professors can easily give a grade of a C in a course. Per a website known as www.myedu.com 22% of the students in a particular professor's class in engineering received a grade of a C, C+, or C- in 2012. 38% A, A+, or A-.. 38% B, B+, or B-.
  9. Thanks. However, the definition of an "average student" bothers me a little in this case. At this institution a student is required to take 2 courses outside of their field of study. For example, an inorganic chemistry student might have to take a mechanical engineering course that has nothing to do with their proposed field of study. Therefore their experience in this class might be a little deficient and most of the topics would be new. If you work really hard and consistently work with the professor to understand the material yet still seem to score low on the midterm and final would you still agree with your above statement? Thanks in advance!
  10. Does anyone know if instructors can easily assign letter grades of C+ or below for Chemical engineering courses at the University of Michigan. I heard through the grape vine the that it is hard for a student to receive lower than a B-.
