Graduate On-Campus Living: Has anyone experience with either Brackenridge, Colorado or the Gateway Apartments? Are these primarily "family" apartments? I'm a relatively young male (27), and I prefer privacy. I'm not interested in a place that is raging with parties like West Campus appears. From the posts, it seems like the North Campus area is pretty good, but I thought I would investigate the University apartments--just to be sure. Any suggestions? Have experience, or know about these places? THANKS A MILLION!
  2. Cost of Living Question: So, I've received a TA'ship for years 2-5. I'm wondering: how far will about 1500 a month go during the nine-month calendar year? I'm looking to get a one-bedroom apartment, have a vehicle, want to live near campus. Rent goes for anything between 600-1000. I'm looking at places in the 600 area. While I understand the "broke" perspective that grad students talk about; I'm also not too keen on literally being broke. Is Austin fairly expensive? My other option is Michigan State in East Lansing, which is throwing a lot more money at me. There, I'd be living comfortably, especially in an economically depressed town. But, I'm much more interested in attending UT Austin, a few hours from home, and in warm weather. Any suggestions, ideas, would be helpful. Have you been in a similar situation?
  3. Question: I applied for the Ford Pre- Fellowship, and it asked me to include my intended college. Well, I have not been admitted there, but I have been admitted to another program. Will it matter if I was not accepted to the "intended" program? Or, is that just a part of the application process--to see if I'm considering how my graduate program handles/fits my future. Honestly, I do not think I will be receiving this fellowship, especially since I've received a flood of rejection letters from other, competitive programs. However, I must say--I'm glad that I did apply--I learned a lot about the process and how to craft a fellowship app, so I will try again next year if I do not win one this year.
