  1. Just got the good news: accepted to ETA in France! Best of luck to you all, and I'm truly sorry for those who didn't get good news. I can't say I'll be checking this forum anymore but, if any other France people would like to get in touch: amir.a.farhadi@gmail.com
  2. Some great points honeybunches, I agree they are vastly different but both very prestiguous. However, I'd contest the notion that ETAs are automatically less competitive. It's true that these grants are more attractive to undergrads, but not all of them. I am a graduate student recommended for the ETA in France which gives only 5-6 grants, with applications usually numbering more than 150. Consequently it has one of the lowest acceptance rates of any FB grant, full or ETA.
  3. I know- because there are so few spots for us! We will almost certainly hear this week since the French gov't ETA decisions go out next week... Did you apply for both? I am wondering if we will receive separate emails or if they have coordinated with each other... Bon courage!
  4. I'm wondering if they are holding back on the Europe/Eurasia ETAs so that they can notify all at once. I only suggest this because it is the first year for a lot of smaller countries (Luxembourg, Cyprus, etc) so maybe they want to see if Luxembourg needs to steal a France applicant, or Cyprus a Greece applicant... just a thought! We haven't heard of any European ETAs yet, right? Just Latin America?
  5. 5 euros that France ETAs will hear this week! I'm feeling thursday the 22nd...
  6. Hi twobitrye, that's awesome that you're a finalist for Jordan, I have spent some time there and really love it. If you are interested in teaching English to Palestinian kids, I help run a program that operates in the refugee camps of Lebanon ( www.leapsummerprogram.org ) every summer for the month of July. It's a really great way to learn a lot about the refugee situation, while helping Middle school kids prepare for the Lebanese high school entrance exam, which is administered in English, and which almost the majority of kids fail, ending their education at age 13. If you do get the grant (insha'allah) and you want to come to the region earlier, or stay later next summer, you should consider coming and teaching in Lebanon! If you (or anyone else) are interested, feel free to contact me at amir@leapsummerprogram.org
  7. Salut cmaddox7, I'm a France ETA finalist, and needlest to say, j'ai hâte de savoir! Judging by last year's notification dates, I'm guessing we will hear within the next ten days or so. I was very much torn between applying for a full grant or an ETA... I'm an MA student in French lit, and had considered applying to do research or work towards a doctorate, but in the end I decided I really wanted to teach. What is your field and where would you be studying? Bon courage!
  8. To lighten the mood in this overly intellectualized waiting game..... at least someone knows how we feel:
  9. All I have received so far is the initial e-mail. Unfortunately, from what I've heard I don't think we will hear until early April. You haven't received confirmation of them receiving your transcript, have you? Did you also apply to the French gov't teaching position?
  10. Hi all, I've just discovered this forum, congratulations to everyone! I was recommended for ETA in France 2012-2013. Very excited, but tired of all the waiting and uncertainty! Any other ETA candidates recommended for France?
