I have received Ph.D offers (Biology Department) from Georgetown University and Penn State Uni. I have got a tuition waiver+ decent assistantship from both the Universities + a small scholarship award from Penn State. I am really confused between the two offers. Pros of Penn State: Undoubtedly a highly ranked Uni. The POI is a professor and top notch in the field (on the other hand he may be too busy to be really involved with a new graduate student). Pros of Georgetown: POI has recently joined as a assistant professor. Very bright (In fact this one has done a post doc with peer of Penn State POI). However, I am not very sure about Georgetown's reputation. Both of the POI's are working in similar area of research (which I am interested in). I also have a two-body issue. My partner has been admitted at University of Delaware. If I go to Georgetown, there is a possibility that we can stay together. Does anyone has thoughts on this?. Which university is a better option?
