  1. I've also been stalking this page for weeks but wanted to share: E/E, VG/VG, E,E and awarded! I'm in my first year of grad school and it's my first time applying. I had a pretty strong publication record and quite a bit of research experience. The second reviewer was by far the most critical, especially on broader impacts. Actually, considering what s/he said, I'm shocked at the VG/VG. Go figure!
  2. I think you must mean Barnard College, not Bard. Bard used to be affiliated with Columbia too, I think, but not anymore. I know Columbia students can take classes at Barnard, and vice versa, so Barnard professors should be able to take Columbia graduate students, especially since they're on the faculty and technically tenured at both institutions.
  3. Hi Cooltime, To answer your question, I'd say that your chances of admission would definitely decrease if you were not interested in spending your life as a researcher and a professor, especially if you made this fact known in your applications. After all, PhD programs are designed to train people for careers in academia, at least primarily as far as I know. I would say that if you do pursue a Master's degree, it would probably be less beneficial to pursue one in sociology than in, say, social work or urban planning or some other degree. Actually, did you ever think of urban planning? That seems like it could fit into your interests. Anyway, I know how hard it is to decide what to do in life. Good luck to you! Urbanethnographer
  4. I was accepted but declined the offer if that helps.
  5. Sure. I was referring to the email notifications. Once they start happening, though, we should start seeing a flurry of posting activity.
  6. I don't think so. I also notice that no rejections or waitlists have been posted. It's possible, actually certain, that some people are waitlisted, but I imagine that the delay here is just GSAS getting around to doing the labor of sending out rejections. I notice that yesterday Columbia GSAS was sending out rejections for the History Department. So, I think our time is coming!
  7. Me either, and I'm thinking the same thing. I emailed the GSAS admissions office and got an email back saying a decision would be made, probably within a week, and I would be notified by email.
  8. Has anyone gotten a rejection from Columbia's Sociology program, PhD?
  9. I saw the other acceptance too sleepycat. Not sure who it is. I'm wondering if anyone who got accepted has received their official letters (emails?) of acceptance yet, outlining the fellowship package...
  10. Total bummer! What are the odds? Any rejections from Columbia? I Heard from NYU(in), CUNY Grad Center(in), and Princeton anthro(out), but nothing from Columbia. It's the last holdout.
  11. I think you're right. My informal acceptance email said 410 applications "for what we expect to be a cohort of 8." I'm domestic BTW.
  12. That other acceptance is me. Like Flowerblitz, I got a call (from Colin Jerolmack--of the awesome work on pigeons)and then an informal follow-up email. My call came on the 15th. I still haven't gotten the formal offer in the mail. I also got accepted to the CUNY Grad Center in Soc. Got rejected by Princeton Anthro. Still waiting to hear from Columbia. But NYU is actually my first choice, so I'm excited!
