Argh, it is so weird that I still haven't heard from two schools, especially Baltimore...
Has anyone else applied to either UMD-Baltimore or Columbia University and not received a decision??
Most schools have to send out decisions by April 1st, right?
Hi RoxyShoe,
I also applied to UMB-Baltimore and have not heard back yet. I recently contacted their Admission's dept. administrative staff, and was told not to expect a decision for another 4-6 weeks (I applied last week of February)
I'm patiently (ahem, anxiously) waiting to hear back

It definitely sounds like you have the potential! Is there a school nearby you are interested in? Perhaps you could ask a MSW professor to mentor you or meet with and discuss best next steps with! Good luck!!

P.s buy AppleCare and you're basically (except for ridiculous physical damage) guaranteed to have a working computer for 3 years which will get u through the program!......do NOT buy a PC unless you want a major headache trying to meet deadlines!

MAC MAC MAC!!!! Base 13" MacBook Pro will save you SOOO much time + iWork and you are set!!!

i'm sorry to hear about your rejection If you do decide to move out to California there are a lot of jobs out here with good pay as behavioral therapists for children with autism. That's what I currently do. The only thing is that it requires a lot of travel so you'd have to have a car and I dont know if you plan on driving on over. most companies offer benefits and health insurance to their full time employees, it took me about 2 months to get to that point. I'm in the LA area though, if you were to move to the Bay area, i'm not sure what the prospects are like.
Thanks and thanks for the info

So very sorry to hear that mswhopeful2012.
Thanks

I am in the same boat you are! I got my rejection letter yesterday, and even though I have back-ups I really don't want to settle for less than Berkeley. I am turning this around into a positive, and still moving up to the Bay Area to gain some work experience and reapply for next year! I knew I was taking a gamble applying because I graduate from a BA in May, but I am determined to try my best at any given point in time. I hear they like when people show determination and reapply, and that's exactly what they will get from me! One year is worth it to go to my dream school
Good luck to you all, and congrats to those who got in! I will definitely be seeing some of you next year on the boards!
It sounds like you are very determined!! I am working on my "this-stinks-but-time-to-keep-trucking contingency plan"!! I may still move out to CA because I really would love to live there am it would give me an opportunity to try and grow more since there really aren't opportunities here. I just have to find a way to make a living and have health insurance before I am able to do that!

I applied to MAP. I still have to hear back from 2 schools, but I really, really wanted to go to Berkeley.
-
I'm so sorry to hear this I could tell how passionate you were about this, and I was definitely rooting for you!
Thanks I really was passionate and still want it very much. Would someone who got accepted be willing to send me your resume and essays so I can see where I went wrong? :::sigh::: gonna take a few days to get over the heartbreak
-
I wasn't accepted. Words really can't describe how much I needed this in life.

Mapletree - thank you for the spreadsheet! It is really helpful. I stayed away from this thread over the weekend....my nerves needed a break.
Congrats to everyone that got in/waitlisted over the weekend!
As for me, I am back to waiting (latte in hand also). Does anyone have an idea when they will let those who didn't get in know, or update our status on the application page?
I stayed away as well to give my nerves a break! (latte not in hand)... Back to waiting! (out of state)
Congrats to everyone!!

Thanks for the document mapletree!! Great resource. Congrats to everyone do far! I promised myself I wouldn't look at this all weekend, so for those of you who got in, have fun celebrating and for those of us who don't know yet, go have fun distracting yourself! As for me, I'll be distracting myself with volunteering at a 5k race and some other fun things! Have a good weekend everyone!

Any updates?

I am biting my nails too waiting to hear back for the CMH concentration!! I had to log out of my email account just because I couldn't stop compulsively hitting refresh.
I know how you feel! Hang in there!
-
Hey All,
I just got in!! My friend who is also CMH also just got in!! So stoked right now it's silly! And we're both UC alum from Ca! Good luck to everyone! Looks like they're shelling out more decisions today!
Congrats to you both!!!

*preference

Same worry here too! I know they give preference to in-staters; maybe it's just that their acceptances were on the top of pile and we'll be hearing soon? Trying to stay optimistic!!
:/. I wasn't aware they give prefer neve to in-staters....trying to stay positive!
-
Have there been absolutely no out-of-state admits so far? Getting pretty nervous that all of the acceptances will go to in-staters (congrats to all of you though!)
I have the same worry!
-
Thank you!! Ok, details.
I found out by email from Melanie Green at 12.12pm. My status on the grad app did not change, it still says "submitted".
Berkeley undergrad, majoring in Sociology and Media Studies. 3.76 overall GPA. GREs - Verbal - bit below average, Math - really crappy, Writing - 4.5. Graduated in 2010. Applied for 2012 with 7 months of combined full-time experience and was waitlisted. Applied this year with more experience.
I think that's all I can type right now. Still kind of freaking out. Will update later with more details on experience. Good luck to everyone still waiting!!!
*In-state applicant!
Thanks for sharing!! Go celebrate!!!!!!
-
Congrats mapletree!!! When/ how did you find out?
-
Just a warning- it took me 3 days to hear back from them after I emailed asking for a CFS decision date (which they only gave me a vague answer anyway!). I hope you have better luck than I do!
If I get into Berkeley I'm suggesting a pre-grad-school-start-post-application-process-let's-have-fun-sharing-our-"fun"-admissions-processes night! Lol
-
Lol. Appear patient? That boat sailed for me long ago...
I had three different dreams about Berkeley the other night, 30 minutes apart from each other. Grad applications should come with a surgeon general warning that it may cause insomnia, night terror, increased irritability...
We have a supportive community here that will do great things in our field. I know I'm going to enjoy meeting students from other schools at field work and possibly working with some people on this forum in the future!
YES!! this definitely needs a warning! I'm not on Pacific time so I read this forum about Berkeley pretty late last night because I had woken up. Then I saw people posting acceptances (awesome!) and then the WORST thing happened!!! I got an email from "The UC Berkeley School of Social Welfare" and I'm thinking "Yes! I'll find out now!". And then it was their Spring 2012 general email sent to anyone on their marketing list in their CRM. Womp, Womp and then I had the dreams! So yes, a warning is in order!

OMG I can totally relate. I had a dream that Berkeley let me see this Excel sheet that contained all the MSW/PhD applicants, and apparently only 5 people applied, but there were only three spots available, so they said that I definitely had a chance. Also, the Excel sheet had ratings that each person on the admissions board gave me ( on a scale from 1-5), I saw a couple of 0's How could someone give me no points!? Anyway, kind of glad it was a dream, but also the idea of only 5 people applying for 3 spots was also nice. Oh well, just keep waiting...
I am happy that i found this forum though. I would be driving my friends crazy constantly complaining/telling them about this waiting process, so it's nice to vent these thoughts/feelings to folks who are in the same boat
Oh no! That dream sounds intense! I agree...this forum does help. I've honestly learned a lot from the people in this forum! My goal is to always grow and better myself because I think that's what leadership calls for and as a social worker one of my goals is to display leadership for those around me. This forum excites me to be immersed in grad school with like minded thinkers Who have different goals so that I can learn from their experiences and grow even more!
I'm pretty sure my friends and family are hoping to hear back as much as I am so I find a different topic of conversation, lol! But most of my friends are applying to grad school too, so we're all in it together!
So, where is everyone really going?
