I got my PDF rejection yesterday. So embarrassing. I do not understand why they could not give the evaluation with the letter. My record (Finishing my Phd in three years): Publications: 7 first authors publications (impact factor not so high but good enough in materials engineering), several 2nd and 3rd author publications. Oral presentations: 10 international conferences (3 best oral presentation awards) Leadship: Organized conferences, Key readers of three jounals etc.... I will not have chance to apply any NSERC PDF fellowship since this was my second time and I will accept a PDF offer from another university. Anyway, good luck everyone.

This is a really strong record. I do not expect I will get it.

No letter yesterday in Edmonton. I realize some westerners got their results. Hopefully I will get the mail today.
-
That is really weird...............

I am not sure if NSERC has the similar policy as other agency to send the award letters first.
-
faming, your record is so strong. R u from U of A?

A big Cong!!!

I was told by someone in CANMET that NSERC may cut 5-10% more funding than last year since NSERC is really underfunded this year. ... Hopefully the successful rate will maintain 10% as last year. I do not expect NSERC will offer more PDF awards than last year. ...

Hopefully we could get some info after two weeks.........

Marmoor, r u from any univeristies in eastern coast?
-
No, I was not eligble to apply any NSERC awards since I was an international student in the first three years of my PhD program. I am not sure if the paper counts are so important. Last year, there was no any PDF awardee in whole faculty of engineering in U of A.
-
Hopefully it will maintain 10%.

I only count the journal papers since I am in chemical engineering and normally we do not care about conference papers since most of them are not under peer-reviewed in my area. I only have 6 first authors journal paper, nothing else.

Marmoor, I am also an applicant for NSERC PDF. It is tough though. I have checked all the PDF holders from last years competition in science and engineering catogary. The number of first author publications of individual ranges from 3-16. You are still within the range. Last year was very exceptional because the successful rate was only 10%, half or even lower than half of that in previous 3 years. I wish NSERC noticed this issue.

I totally agree with you, Mungmung. When you read the instruction of the evaluation, academic potential is really a concern when the selection committee make the final decision.

I guess roughly the week of March 19th this year.
-
Ktel, which year did you apply for it?

Hello Boourns, I am from U of A as well. I wish you could get it this time. I am praying to get the PDF. Pretty close to March...
