  1. Pampelmuse, have you been in contact with Donald Kuspit at Stony Brook? He's a pretty key figure in early 20th century German criticism (and a significant pull for my accepting their PhD admittance). If you've received funding, consider it a bit further! A free MA is definitely something to be attracted to, however.
  2. Though I've not fully dedicated myself to any particular period, I suppose I'd like to focus on the interstice between art and music, and, naturally, art history and musicology. I have a strong interest in early 20th century Europe as well as post-war America, though, oddly enough, the culmination of my undergraduate work was focused on the prints of late Edo period Japan. Really, it's probably too early for me to narrow myself to one concentration. How about yourself?
  3. I've just inquired about this to Joseph Monteyne, the director, and have yet to receive a response. I'll post when he responds, though, I believe they generally admit only a handful of Ph.D students annually. I've been admitted to the Ph.D program for this fall with funding plus stipend - I'll be accepting. Are the two of you considering attending Stony Brook? It is my impression that they have quite a respectable reputation, despite the department being relatively small. I find the program very attractive, actually, and I'm super excited about being admitted. It is a theory-based program which lends itself well to interdisciplinary work and, most importantly, a culturally significant art history. The only undesirable aspect of the program is its location, I think, and I'm not sure that I'll be making the move to Long Island. A commute from Brooklyn seems to be worth the trouble.
