I've been hitting the gym pretty hard everyday, some days even twice, it's pretty much the only thing that gets my mind off of this ridiculousness that is waiting haha. I go everyday anyway (grad school waiting or not, haha), but now it really is a pretty decent escape from undergrad work and thinking about applications. Thought I'd share that, the swimming comment kind of reminded me of myself.

I'm not sure about Gallatin, but the GSAS admissions faq states that decisions are mailed out in March, so I imagine that might be the case with Gallatin given how late it is in February now.

jaja, entonces has notado mi nombre de usuario - sevilla hasta la muerte, claro

It's okay, us Spanish/Portuguese/Romance Language people are basically in the dark still too aside from the few French notifications that have already gone out. I still haven't heard from UDel's Art History dept. yet but I'm guessing I won't until mid-March at the earliest since their spring semester only just started a couple of weeks ago. The waiting is really killing me.

I also applied to spanish/romance language departments but haven't heard a word from any of them. I applied to: NYU in Madrid (M.A. Spanish) UPenn (PhD. Romance Languages) University of Delaware (Dual M.A. Spanish/French) Pending whether I get acccepted to any of those, I am going to apply to a couple of the safety schools I had lined up with insanely late deadlines (WCU, SLU in Madrid). At Penn, the DGS told me that I would hear back in early March, UDel said mid-late March (their Spring semester only just started on Feb 11), and NYU's website says that decisions are mailed out in mid-late March. I only applied to a few because I was only interested in going to those schools/programs, at least for this cycle. If I don't get in I think I'd rather find a job translating than going to one of my safety schools, but we'll see. Where did you apply/what are your research interests?

I really enjoyed reading your objective post - though perhaps a little less than the 'smiley' admissions decisions signature - A+ on that one..haha Most of what my advisers told me confirms what you have already said, though that doesn't make me any less nervous about not having heard a word yet, haha (mostly MA programs, one far-reach PhD). Thanks again!

congrats halifax!!

maybe this week guys/gals? haha wishful thinking maybe golden age spain and provincial influences here..though i'm also a big renaissance/counter-ref person

ahug - I don't know where you live outside the US, but I have lived in Spain, and travelled several times to France, Italy, and Portugal, and must say that those systems, with regards to bureaucracy/paperwork at least, are 10x worse than the US. I'm a huge xenophile, but in this case, I simply cannot agree with you, haha. Maybe it's better in Canada, Britain, or Germany, but the rest of continental Europe is intolerable at times with stuff like that! ETS I think is just one of those special cases - try getting official copies of your transcript from a Spanish University!
-
Good luck, you seem like a good candidate for the programs you listed. I'm not quite sure I understand why you would need to send an updated transcript - if they like you (which some are bound to), then they'll see your final transcript eventually anyway - and since you just have a solid application across the board, I don't see how the updated transcript could help you any further.

It most likely varies by school and program.

on second thought, the Penn thing could be accurate, because the degree is technically PhD Romance Languages, which means within that category of Romance Languages, there will be people applying to Italian, French, and Spanish, which means that the stats would be split up, though not necessarily evenly depending on how many people apply to certain areas.
-
Yea, it doesn't differentiate between acceptance percentages by degree (PhD, MA, full-time/part-time), so I imagine that if you're interested in just PhD statistics, it would be much lower - or at least a little bit. Certain schools I applied to, take University of Delaware for example, only offer an MA in the program to which I applied (Dual MA Spanish & French), and so when I see statistics like 38 people applied (its really not a big program, but it is sort of one of those relatively hidden jem in the field), and 68% acceptance, I think it probably reflects reality. However, I do have a hard time believing that the Penn program to which I applied (PhD Romance Languages), receives only 97 applicants and also has a 26% acceptance rate (it seems like a big percentage for such an elite program and university) - its possible, but I'm not holding my breath, haha. I will say that the waiting is killing me though - I somehow managed to apply only to schools that don't respond until the end of Feb/mid-March at the earliest, so I constantly find myself perusing through sites like Peterson's and my online applications, even though in reality it is really just a huge waste of time, being that I have 3 very large and important term papers due at the end of the semester!
-
So who are these mystery French PhD acceptances coming from? haha Must be someone just posting on the results part, congrats whoever it is! I unfortunately have to wait until end of month at the earliest, but most likely first two weeks of march, which is much too late in my opinion, haha.
-
That's unfortunate brit - I'm sure you'll get some good ones though, just have to wait a little longer! I am just getting so impatient haha I have professors coming to me all excited like, did you hear anything yet? haha Unfortunately I have to say no. haha I can't believe how anxious I am just to hear something.
-
Devastated by my GRE score. Is there any hope for me?

sounds good to me! haha interdisciplinary is my middle name -
Mew, that is unfortunate! Good luck with your other applications, I'm sure you'll do great if the Berkeley interview was any indication of how the rest will go! I'm really getting impatient, haha, one of my favorite professors talked to me after class and was like, so, any word? And when I said no, she said you must be anxious as anything right now! It's funny when the profs talk to you about it because you know that they went through the same (or at least a similar) process at some point.

From what I've heard other people say, the AW score isn't as big of a deal, especially if you had to submit a writing sample/SoP (which most do) - especially since your field seems like the Q would reflect a bit more of your ability. Since it is that low though, it might be what people call a 'red flag' - the type of thing where it can't really help but it can hurt you, etc. I have one with my GRE because it ended up being a lot lower than it prob should have been (57%V 44%Q, 96% AW), although I'm remaining optimistic - which is really all I think you can do. I wouldn't contact them because like you said it'll prob just draw attention to it. Also for MA programs I think that it's prob less strict with GRE scores, whereas PhD programs are probably a bit worse (not looking at certain apps b/c of low score/one red flag, etc.) Anyway good luck! Hopefully it'll al just be over soon anyway.

congrats!! that's exciting that you've been accepted somewhere already! halifax, for my programs I didn't need to fill it out because they didn't request it (any aid was merit-based not like need-based, which I interpreted as you get money based on your app package, but either way none of my programs requested it) funding is guaranteed on acceptance anyway to the majority of my programs so I think the whole thing is mostly centered on your application - I'd double check just to be sure but unless it states that as part of the application process/requirements, etc. I wouldn't worry about it.
