Spoke to a secretary in the dept I am planning to attend. She said that findin housing does not take more than three days and that you shouldnt really look earlier than mid August!
I'm worried about finances though. Anyone know if it is possible to survive on 13,000 a year here??
Thanks everyone, this is all really good advice.
I think my biggest concern is that UW's program is huge--I'm worried that support for the students will be a little stilted.
UW is a guaranteed MA/PhD five years of funding, SU is a two year MA with a good track record of getting their students into "better" PhD programs.
UW's cohort is huge while SU has a lot of personal attention (like a lot a lot).
More people in UW working on my interests (history of the novel and philosophy and literature)
Seattle has a much higher cost of living and their stipend is not quite as much as SU's.
Also moving all the way to the west coast feels terrifying but staying on the easy feels boring.
What should I do?! Spazzing out to the extreme.
I had the same issue a few weeks back so I emailed them. They told me that there was no funding for the first year but that there is a wait list for TAships. I would email the DGS though just in case. I'm in the same position--fully funded elsewhere and debating what to do.
They have an inclusive program much like Penn's. So, I applied and was accepted into the MA, but have the option to advance to the PhD noncompetitively.
Are there any current UW grads who are familiar with the program? I really want to go but am afraid of "falling through the cracks" in such a huge program. Are they good about spreading their attention to all grad students?
Thanks
Hi All, I was wondering if anyone knew of programs particularly involved with studying the history and development of the novel. I am especially interested in schools that focus on philosophical and epistemological movements and how they contribute to literary and critical content. It is hard for me to narrow the search down because my interest interacts with the entire history and future of the novel, rather than one particular period. Thanks!
How accurate are these offers? I checked and it sai I had an offer of admission for the PhD but I applied for the MA.
Does UW have decent funding usually?
Has anyone heard any news from Seattle? I know they are notoriously late with application responses, but it's one of my top choices and the suspense is killing me.
