  1. I know there aren't a lot of applicants for Language/literacy out there, but I figured grad cafe-ers would have a better insight into these schools than I do... I applied to "different" programs for each school: Language&literacy for Penn gse and C&I for Lynch. Still, I applied to Lynch with intended concentration in Language/literacy/culture so I guess it's safe to say I'm on the search for the school that offers better language instruction courses. (English as primary language as well as TESOL) I'm also hoping to take some Lit courses outside the gse, and ultimately return to school for PhD.. The caveat Is that Penn gse offered scholarship and GA (10k). Lynch didn't. But the faculty for my program at Penn gse also seemed to be on the younger side, and with professor Pica gone, I'm just worried I won't find a professor who has had both great research and teaching experience at Penn. I'm not sure what Lynch C&I Program is like though, so I'm utterly lost... I'll definitely end up with a huge loan with no funding from BC, but I'm pretty sure I can pull it off financially (well, eventually..) Any thoughts or advice? Thank you in advance, and congratulations everyone who made it this application cycle!
  2. Ah. Didn't make it either, but was worth the try I ended up better than I had thought, so i'm not too sad I guess. Congrats to everyone who made it!
  3. Oi! Congrats on TC Futureedstudent Ah. This is satisfying. Got an email from BC while I was in class. It didn't say anything about funding though, so I guess I'll just ask them about it sometime this week...after I work on my thesis! Also got a very short rejection letter from BU in my mailbox. Well, I guess it's between Philly and Boston now--decision from Harvard would officially end my application cycle. Now I just need to graduate!
  4. Congrats TexanLex!
  5. PhD2000s thank you so much for the update!
  6. Thanks everyone! Hope you all hear more good news in the coming month! kamadeva, I hope she gets in! I heard back exactly 4weeks and a day after my application went under review, so hopefully she'll hear from them soon! Texanlex, I agree with ak1. I've seen so many higher ed and ed policy applicants I wouldn't be surprised if it took longer to review the application..I'm guessing I heard back so quickly because there just aren't that many applicants for my program. But good luck! I'm sure the wait will pay off. Ak1, congrats and thanks for the info! So I'm guessing that you've already made your choice? For Lynch I applied for Curriculum&Instruction, with focus on Language/Culture subfield. My second recommendation wasn't received until the end of January and they forgot to waive TOEFL for me until Jan 30th, so I wouldn't be totally shocked to find out that I didn't make it. I guess I'll just wait and see until they make it official...
  7. I finally heard back from UPenn today. After two weeks of torment, I finally found out that I got in! This one was the first decision I got, so I'm pretty pumped and so relieved. Now I can breathe, waiting to hear from HGSE, BC and BU... BTW, I'm in Language and Literacy Program (M.S.Ed). I am yet to come across someone else who's applied to the same program.. Anyone?
