SLP/Communication Disorders Masters Applicants

I know they had an open house for accepted students on 3/31. Not sure if it was just for the 2-year students or if it included the 3-years (I didn't attend as I already declined their offer). If I were you, I'd send them an e-mail this week and ask. Good luck! -

I am having major stress over that exact issue. I'm deciding between two schools: one extremely expensive, the other relatively affordable. The expensive school is, of course, my dream school to which I'm thankful to have been admitted. As much as I try to justify the extra cost and as much as I tell myself that I belong at the expensive school, the reality is that I just don't think it is prudent to take on extreme debt to go there. (I have found a student loan debt payment calculator that has been extremely helpful - http://www.finaid.org/calculators/loanpayments.phtml - check it out) As the Stones say, you can't always get what you want - such is life. I'm extremely fortunate, though, in that my second, more affordable program is excellent in its own right and that I know I can succeed there. That being said...I'm still going to make one more push for some funding at the expensive school. What are your thoughts - are you leaning toward a more expensive school? -

Do the Fulbright program! I had the chance to move to Europe after I graduated college and didn't do it...I still regret that decision. Grad school will still be here for you in year! -

A note to anyone waiting on USF - I contacted them about my status and got a response today. At this point, if you haven't heard anything, you're on the wait list. I was told that they admitted 90 people (out of 400) and are waiting to get answers from those folks by April 15th before they address the waiting list. She said that they are still reviewing applications (?) so it certainly doesn't hurt to call or e-mail just to make sure they have you listed correctly. Congrats to everyone who was accepted to USF! -

I haven't hear a peep from USF, either, and ultimately assumed that I didn't make the cut for the first round of acceptances. I e-mailed them last week to ask my status but haven't heard anything back. Maybe give them a call? I think that is appropriate at this stage. And to everyone who didn't get accepted to UC Boulder - hang in there! I had several professors at my school tell me what a competitive program it is (and I'm nowhere near CO). -

Yes, to anyone waiting for a response from Vanderbilt, e-mail Ms. Smith. I did so this morning...she just got back to me...and I got in! -

Yes, I wouldn't want to face the phone and e-mail onslaught from 400+ anxious, overachieveing, type-A SLP students! But the suspense is killing me...so I have to call. -

I haven't heard anything either (and I just checked today's mail). I am definitely calling on Monday to check my status. Hey, that's what the e-mail said to do if we didn't hear by the end of this week, right? Although I do feel sorry for them in that they are probably going to get a million calls on Monday -

I was just wondering the same thing. I'm curious if those who received the letters also received the e-mail message. Either way, I'm nervous! -
I know that these rankings should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt, but in the new US News & World Report list of SLP programs, SDSU jumped up to #25! I am feeling very torn between SDSU and another school. Decisions, decisions... congrats on your acceptances

I'm so sorry for the mix-up - no heart attacks, please! As I said, I mindlessly switch them all of the time. It doesn't help that they are so close to one another (both name and location) I hope you eventually get good news from UCF! -

Yes, others have received acceptances. Whatever - I need to get over it. I already was accepted to my first choice so I have absolutely nothing to complain about! But thank you for the kind words -

I have pretty much given up on getting good news from USF. I just checked the admissions video on their website, and it stated that they usually fill the class with the first round of acceptances. The video says that last year, they sent out 90-100 acceptances and got 70 "yes" responses. Having not received anything from them yet, I'm assuming that I didn't make the cut for the first round. C'est la vie! I know I shouldn't be bummed - I have already been accepted to several programs, a luxury many people don't have - but it still stings! *edited to say USF, not UCF! i switch those two constantly -

Thank you Astrid Coleslaw and jkathleen for the input - I really do appreciate it. And yes, I plan to get in touch with the department at SDSU and ask some questions. For what it is worth, I'm actually blown away by how inexpensive out-of-state tuition is at SDSU - it is just barely more than the in-state tuition at my state's main campus! In all honesty, I think that every single state school in the country is facing budget problems right now. thanks again and best of luck to both of you! -

How serious of a concern is this? I was accepted to SDSU and am seriously considering it. I'm on the east coast, though, so I am not terribly knowledgeable about the true extent of CA's budget problems. -

i was accepted to the 2 year program (and I'm out of state). I'm in the same boat with another program - other people have received acceptances/rejections and I haven't heard anything. I had to send my transcripts to one school four times because they kept misplacing them. To be fair, dealing with 400 applicants must be tough...and I'm sure the people in that department were getting sick of me calling every other day to check on whether or not they had listed my transcripts...but it still caused me a great deal of stress. -

Thanks for the info! I mentioned my interest in the CI track...though I'm very interested in the neurogenic track, too. It is going to be a stressful two weeks to figure out what to do! -

A question for those of you who were recently accepted by the University of South Carolina - did any of you state an interest in one of the specialty tracks (AVT/CI or neurogenic disorders)? Did your acceptance letter say anything about you being admitted to one of the tracks? I'm just curious to know if anyone knows anything before I call the department. Thanks!
