  1. Yea, I feel like they've been much nicer now than a couple weeks ago. I think they understand how anxious we must be. Maybe they got an office wide memo requiring them to be more patient with us. Sigh...I may die of an anxiety attack.
  2. What's that website where you can check how long mail will take to reach you? I know someone posted the link in this forum before.
  3. Congratulations!!! This is the first news I've heard about for South Asia. I wonder what this mean for other South Asian countries. My anxiety just sky-rocketed. Amyleigh- what state do you live in?
  4. Erind, thank you very much for posting that information!! For people applying to South and Central Asia- I just emailed Charles Restrepo and this was his reply: "You should receive notification of your status by the end of next week. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me." End of next week?!! I was really hoping that we would know by the end of this week. Last year, people found out between the 15th-20th. I really hope that we know by early next week at the latest! I'm telling you, this wait will be the death of me.
  5. Hey guys, what other medical tests did they require? I don't actually have health insurance and all these lab tests sound expensive. Oh boy!
  6. Having made many incredibly stupid and careless mistakes with grave consequences myself, I definitely feel your pain. Don't be too hard on yourself- shit happens and that's life. I feel like someone at IIE would be understanding of your mistake and may still accept your essays in German. I would call IIE and talk to as many people as possible and try to explain the situation. It is better for them to think that your forgot to include your essay rather than thinking that you didn't bother to even write it. If you can't get anyone on the phone, I would send emails to as many people as possible at IIE and at Germany's Fulbright office. It would be good to attach the German essays to the emails too. It may not help, but I don't think it will hurt either. At least someone may notice that you care enough to go through all this effort. If all that fails, I would go to http://www.fmylife.com and make a post about this situation and read about how other people have done stupid things themselves. It always makes me feel better. What would life be without such "fmylife" moments?
  7. Wow..that is really weird. How you do feel about possibly going to a different country than you originally planned?
  8. I just want to suggest that if we do get the Fulbright and if we are asked at the end of our Fulbright term for feedback to improve the process- let's please suggest that they send email notifications before doing snail mail and to please make decisions earlier. The past 3 weeks have been killer for me. Also, just wondering what people's backup plans are if they don't get the Fulbright?
  9. Hey everyone, my friend at work just told me that her roomate found out that she got a research grant to South Korea. I just wanted to let you guys know in case there is someone on this forum applying to East Asia.
  10. Yea...I really think it is the New York IIE office, not the South Asian offices that are taking so long. IIE already has the final choices from the host country but they are holding off because they re-review the host countries selections. BS!!!
  11. Are you serious!!! WTF...grrrr :x That's what he said at the beginning of last week. It's going to be 2-3 weeks forever! It's gonna be October and we'll still be told to wait 2-3 weeks!
  12. Hey Bengalbound, I'm applying to Sri Lanka and I'm definitely possessed with Fulbright anxiety. That's really awesome that you got that "take back" email- that's a good sign. Hopefully it does mean that they'll send out the letters soon. Last week, I emailed and called Charles Restrepo who is the program manager for South and Central Asia. He gave me the generic "mid-april" response. Has anyone else tried contacting him about South Asia? If you haven't and would like to, here is the contact info: Charles Restrepo, Program Manager Tel: 212 984-5519 crestrepo@iie.org
  13. Congratulations again to all the winners! Where is my manila envelope?? :?: :!:
  14. I agree! I can't concentrate on anything else because I'm so anxious about the Fulbright. I know I'm not going to hear back for another couple weeks, yet I get so nervous every time I check the mail. My friends are sick of me talking about it. This wait will be the death of me.
  15. Yea, congratulations to everyone who has received a final acceptance and to those who have been wait listed (I hope you get it!). For those of us who are still waiting- good luck!
  16. Hey everyone, Like I said before, I found a few Fulbrighters to South Asia (specifically Sri Lanka) that I've been keeping in touch with through Facebook. Most of them said that they heard back about final acceptance in Mid-April (around the 20th) but I just heard from another Fulbrighter who said that she actually found out in March. She also said that the Fulbright organization is pretty unorganized and final notices can be pretty random. Gosh, I just wanna know!!!
  17. What's the name of this Fulbright group on Facebook? Since all the time I'm wasting on this forum isn't enough...
  18. I found a few previous Fulbrighters to South Asia through Facebook and they said that hey recieved their final acceptance around Easter time. One person gave me a specific date of April 20th. I'm assuming it'll be the same this year- another three weeks seems like forever!
  19. For anyone else who is applying to South and Central Asia, I emailed Charles Restrepo who is the Program Manager for these regions to ask about when we hear about our final acceptance. This was his reply: "We
  20. Yea...the wait is pretty frustrating. I need to let my job know whether or not I'm staying for next year ASAP so it would be good to hear back from Fulbright soon. I don't think I can wait until Mid-April. On top of that, I can't concentrate on anything else either because I'm so anxious. I really with Fulbright would speed up the process.
  21. If we do get accepted....does anyone know where our orientation will be?
  22. Thanks for suggestions, but now I'm a little confused about the process. Step 1: IIE selects the first round of applicants (twice as many applicants as there are spaces for) and sends them to the host country. Step 2: The host country picks one out every two applications they receive. At least, this is what I was told by the Fulbright office at my school (University of Michigan). So why would the New York office (the IIE office) send any applications to the host country that they wouldn't want to get picked??
  23. I applied to Sri Lanka and got past the first round. I heard from other Sri Lanka applicants that you hear back about the final round in mid-April- around Easter. I just wanna know already!!! This is killing me!! The other problem is that I need to let my work know whether or not I'm staying next year and I can't wait until mid-April. I've been considering calling the Fulbright office in Sri Lanka, but I don't know if that's a smart decision. Any thoughts?
