  1. I really can't speak to the nature of MFA programs, but I do think it would be beneficial to have your professors read your poetry. Partly because I feel it would allow for them to write more germane letters of recommendation, and because it would allow you some of the feedback you're looking for.
  2. Ya! I got in with some funding
  3. So there's a chance that those rejections were not the official recommendation?!
  4. Hi everyone! I apologize for everyone who has had to read my pleas for input, but thought I might try in "Decisions, Decisions." I was accepted into M.A. programs at St. Louis University and University of Vermont in English. Both offer assistantships, though SLU is offering an $18K stipend as opposed to UVM's $15K stipend. I am inclined toward Burlington, but I am afraid I'm being unfair to St. Louis. I'm coming from California so both be an adjustment in terms of climate... any one have any info about living in either town or have an preferences themselves?
  5. I haven't exactly sent in my acceptance letter yet, but it certainly seems as though Burlington will be my home for the next few years! I am looking forward to working as a TA in an Intro Writing course as an English grad student. I'm hoping maybe if a few other folks stumble upon this thread, I might be able to find a prospective roommate or two! I'm going to be headed back east from California so I'm looking to make a pretty big transition and any help and any potential friends would be awesome!
  6. Got rejected : / No email, but checked my application status on the school website.
  7. I realize that it has been several years since anyone posted on this forum, but I've started apartment hunting. I have a couple schools to hear back from still, but right now it looks like I'll be living in Burlington come August for a couple of years. I was wondering if anyone had any advice or if perhaps anyone knew about the potential to find affordable, furnished apartments.
  8. Have any MA applicants heard back one way or another?
  9. My hair will be entirely pulled out by then.
  10. Thanks JeremiahParadise! Looks like I'll have some serious decisions to make!
  11. Just got an unofficial acceptance with aid!
  12. I'm an MA applicant btw. If you guys haven't heard yet, I still have even longer to wait lol.
  13. I have nothing to report : ( I had originally promised myself not to follow forums (seeing how obsessively my boyfriend checked in on his med school forums)... but I've caved. I'm obsessively checking my email anyway. I might as well obsess in good company : )
  14. I'm another unfortunate MA applicant. I would just like to know one way or another. I think I was fine until my well-intentioned mother started planning a Vermont visit. I'd be content in Vermont, but Brandeis and Northeastern are my top picks and It'd be awfully convenient if I had a Boston school to visit on my to Burrrrrrrrlington.
  15. Are you guys both PhD applicants?
  16. Julianne Pigoon, I believe I have seen you in every forum I've checked in on today. I don't mean to be creeper. I haven't contributed much to forums because I have nothing really to add aside from "I'm freaking out and want to know what I'm doing with my life 6 months from now" but I suppose everyone who hasn't heard back from all their schools is in the same boat. I did get accepted here with a pretty nice funding package. I wish I hadn't heard back from them so soon though (mid February) because I know now it will be harder to accept other acceptances (should more come my way) with less than stellar funding and I don't imagine my top picks (Brandeis, Northeastern, University of Oregon), should I even get in, will have nearly as much to offer.
