By most accounts it seems that you've had just a few too many ales, and from your own rants, it seems that you're a pretty wrathful guy. Maybe you should tone down on the anger, you may give yourself a heart attack!

It's okay berrinchuda, I get that feeling too. When I catch myself imagining how awesome it would be to win an award, I have to force myself to imagine an equally disappointing scenario to balance out. It's ridiculous!

"The approximate timeframe for additional announcements is within the next two weeks." This is up on the front page of http://www.nsfgrfp.org/. I guess that's better than nothing. So by the end of April?

I feel like the number of additional awards should be a significant amount, at least more than 50. The wording of the message on Fastlane referring to the first "installment" implies that there will be a second "installment". Of course, I could be reading too much into the semantics, but to me, why call it an installment if it's just a few trickling of awards left?

Can we please just unlock the other one? I think it may have derailed a bit, but it's become more of a NSF GRFP support group than anything, I don't see the harm in letting everyone vent.

I have a question for everyone who is waiting on the results: If you get it, how many of you are planning on using the award for a Master's as opposed to a Ph.D. program? Thanks.

I know everyone is tense, but there is no need to turn on each other. We're all just doing our best to deal with the anxiety, and I'm sure arrogance or rudeness were not intended. Seriously, don't let it get to you!

I certainly did not mean to imply you were greedy. I just don't know of anyone else in the past that has been able to stack NSF funding on top of a professor already funding the student, and didn't know how to even broach such a topic with a professor if ever coming to that situation. Anyway, congrats, your professor certainly is generous and you seem to be in a good financial situation.

I always assumed that once your professor finds out you've gotten the NSF, they automatically assume that you're funded and don't need their additional funding anymore. Why would they give you up to 50K a year to do a graduate student's job? How would you be able to ask them for their additional funding when you already have the NSF without sounding greedy? Don't get me wrong, of course it'd be sweet to have so much money, but I just can't see myself asking for the additional funding without a really good reason for why i need that extra money.

Yeah, but I think someone said they heard that NSF is making a point this year not to leak the list before people receive their email. How successful they will be is to be seen, but assuming they don't make any mistakes, we probably won't see a list until we've already been notified somehow.

I don't think a list will be the first thing that lets us know if we receive the award or not. Most likely the first sign will be either an email or logging on to the application page and seeing something different.

Inane, maybe, but I disagree that it's completely useless. I think these posts are making a lot of us feel better that we have others to commiserate with.

This goes beyond all logic and reason. Why do I keep stressing myself out and rechecking this forum and refreshing the NSF page when all signs point to the results being posted next week at the earliest?

Maybe we should call the fastlane people again just to get a confirmation on when the results will be posted, since they obviously have them already?
