  1. Thanks alot for the information. How did you find out about your ranking? Like who did you contact at NSERC? And when do they announce the June results? Like the first week?

The letter I received this morning, stated it. I think NSERC is trying to be more transparent this time. I hope this helps.

  2. Thanks !!! This is a very good new...(hopefully. :D )..since I am in 18/81 in ece and shortlisted....

They will publish another result in June. I really wish you all the best. There is a good chance to succeed this year for short listed applicants. Once again, best of luck, and never give up!

  3. Extremely delighted to pass this information. I won this year's NSERC PDF. I received my letter in Victoria this morning. I wish you all the best all as well.

Ranked 10 out of 81. Just you know it. My overall score is: 81/100.

  4. Extremely delighted to pass this information. I won this year's NSERC PDF. I received my letter in Victoria this morning. I wish you all the best all as well.

  5. Hi ,

I was in Vancouver when i submitted my application>but now moved to Alberta. I am not able to get any infomation from my previous home address .What to do?

Will NSERC put result on website? If yes, when?

    thanks

You should better send an email to NSERC and tell your story very briefly. They should correctly advise you; suggest you what steps to take next. Like the ocean that remains calm in its depths even when waves rage over its surface, and like the sun that continues shining on high even during storms, we can at each moment create value and develop our state of life, enjoying our existence to the fullest in times of both suffering and joy.

  6. Received my letter today in BC.  I was waitlisted.  Letter was dated March 25th and envelope was postmarked March 27th.

Did any one received a letter in Vancouver today?

  7. I just  received the letter today and unfortunately it was negative, dated March 25

    I am attending McGill

Thank you for the information. Sorry to hear about it. Lately, NSERC had been really hard on students.

  8. I'm in downtown Ottawa and did not receive a letter yesterday (for CGS-D).

I hope you will receive a positive letter by Tuesday noon. Please let us know. Thanks.

  9. To distract you from waiting, I have a question... for post doctoral applicants it states that only one application can be sent to NSERC per year.  So... does this mean that I can't apply for "Postdoctoral Fellowship" and "Visiting Fellowships in Canadian Government Laboratories Program" in the same year?

If you have submitted two separate applications in the same year, I guess one will be void.  Best you can do is to seek suggestions directly from NSERC. I am not sure how it works in this situation.

NSERC webpage states however, that a candidate is allowed to submit only one PDF application starting 2013. Only those who applied for NSERC PDF in 2011 (for the 2012 session) and could not succeed were allowed to re-apply in 2012 (for the 2013 session).

    Also,

    • NSERC PDF application (must be made within 2 years of PhD completion)!
    • NSERC Visiting Fellowship Application (within 5  years of PhD completion)!!
  10. Thanks!

My letter was dated March 25th.

Thank you for the information. This information will be helpful to every one. Although a long waiting is never easy, we will hopefully receive our letter by next week Wednesday if not Tuesday. All the best for the good work you do every day.

  11. I can confirm that Ottawa received letters from NSERC today. Letters should be on the way for everyone else. Happy I received my PDF award!

You must be very happy. Congratulations on your achievement, and thank you for the posting.

  12. Just to let you know, the Banting results were just posted to Researchnet- so I expect the Vaniers are probably up there as well.

I din't get the Banting :( Ranked 69 out of 180, with 23 awards given, so at least I can console myself that I was above average ;)

Thank you for the information. I hope you will  have other best opportunities waiting for you in the days to come.

  13. Are there such top-ops for PDFs?

That.s a good question, something  I should look at. I am not sure at this time if the PDF holders can obtain further supports from NSERC or not, within their tenure (other than the 5K UK topping), but if a candidate holds the NSERC PDF fellowship, many faculty members (in Canada or in the USA) are happy to top-up, up to 10K (sometimes up to 20 K) per year.

  14. Just got word from UVic: I got a PGS-D3!

Congratulations! You can now explore additional benefits that comes up with this scholarship, such as additional top-ups, two months of paid (on top of NSERC's fellowship) research experience., including paid travel cost, in Japan, etc.All the best.

  15. I checked with my grad secretary and department head, they have received nothing from GPS at McGill. I was also warned though that the new administrative system is extremely slow so I shouldn't expect anything (the grad secretary had a mini rant on how frustrating it is to work with them).

If the information has already reached to the research office of the far west of university in Canada, it must have reached to all of the universities in Canada (my guess). An hour ago,  I personally went on to checking with the Department Secretary (for CGS-PGS) and then with the staff at the University research office (for PDF). The results are already in. No doubt about it. The results were already in with the research office and then it already circulated to the respective departments in the university where I am in. Its possible that the research offices in some other universities have not yet forwarded the result to the respective departments. I came to learn that the PDF results will not be available in the research office (or departments) unless the application was made directly through the university.

  16. it depends on the department. in my experience, the school of graduate studies sends notification to the chair or secretary of departments with applicants and some will notify supervisors or the students directly. as you know, people are often quite busy and some aren't good with email.

Thanks for the information. This year, out come of the applications seems to have been out earlier than the last year. By Friday this week, everyone should know the outcome (my guess!). I guess its a time to ask the outcome of your NSERC application to your graduate secretary.

  17. Just got my email today from the department, CGS-M :)

When you said, you received an email from the department, did you mean by the secretary of your department (i.e., Chemistry) and not the FoGS? Just curious.

  18. In a direct PhD program you are eligible to apply for a PGS/CGS-M for year 1 and year 2. Meaning that you can apply before entering the program, and if unsuccessful, can apply again in the first year of your program.

If that's the case, it makes sense. Learning never ends!

    • Location: University of Victoria; Application Season:Already Attending; Program:PhD in Inorganic Chemistry.
    • CGS-M award offered to a PhD student? How come?
  19. I have heard from a few different people that they do. I don't know what the purpose of this ranking is though. I am not sure whether or not NSERC takes it into consideration.

I was ranked 3rd by the Department and I won PGS-D3. That was in 2008.
