  1. There are a couple of cheaper but inconvenient options (MegaBus and Greyhound both go to Atlanta, but not the airport), but most people use Groome shuttles. They pick up every hour, and drop you off at either their office in the west side of Athens or at the on-campus stop, the Georgia Center. https://groometransportation.com/athens/
  2. Well first off, which school has professor(s) or specialities you most want to work with? Second, how do the financial aspects of your offers stack up, and how important is this to you? (In general, the cost of living is probably cheaper at UGA than the other two as well) Third, the math grad depts are ranked by US News as follows: UConn #87, UGA #52, UPitt #60 out of #134 (there are several ties on this list, though). Fourth, location. UConn is east of Hartford, CT and just over three hours northeast from NYC. UPitt is also in the northeastern part of the country, located in Pittsburgh, PA about 5hrs northwest of Washington DC. UGA is much further south, located in Athens, GA about one hour east of Atlanta (all times are estimated driving times). Does this matter? What kind of place do you want to go to? Now as a student of UGA, I am obviously biased because I love living in Athens. But I think any of these options are a great choice, it all comes down to what points you decide are the most important, and which of the schools fit you best.
  3. GATech is in Atlanta, UGA is in Athens (this board). Am assuming there is a typo somewhere around here! If you're headed to Atlanta-- good luck! Have fun! But the Atlanta board is probably a better place to look. My info is all several years out of date! If you're coming to Athens, let us/me know and we can talk details then
  4. I'm sorry, I've lived on the southeast side my whole time here, and no one I know lives on the north end. Some parts seem fairly nice, and some parts pretty sketchy just driving through, but it's like that in a lot of areas in town. Northeast seems to be consistently the nicest (I think someone else mentioned this already?) so perhaps that's another area to try.
  5. Brandon oaks and rogers road are both a little offset from the main campus area (I think there's only one bus route that goes there), although I believe Brandon oaks is the best bet if you are coming with family (only option with 2ba, laundry in unit). I lived in a 1br in university village though, so I don't know much about the specifics of the other options.
  6. I lived in family/grad housing for my first two years (currently a third year), and there are some decent pros to on-campus. You don't have to set up your utilities since electricity/water/cable/internet is included in the monthly rent (the grand total there is a bit less than what I pay now), and the maintenance crew were always really quick to fix things; buildings A-L are on two UGA bus routes and are a twenty minute walk to Sanford stadium. On the other hand, you can get nicer apartments with a lot more space just a little ways off campus-- and its sooo much cheaper to get a roommate, too. Lots of 2+br apts here, some for only a little more than the 1br prices. Let me know if I can help you with anything!
  7. Hi! Looking for other people starting at UGA this fall-- I am from a small town in Georgia, with my undergrad degree in Math from a small state college. Can't wait to start my physics graduate work and start meeting other people who will be around, too!
