genetics99 I currently live in grad housing. It’s pretty basic but I have no complaints. For me it was easier than going through the process of finding an apartment in an area I didn’t know well. Besides, the locations of university owned buildings are generally better than non-university buildings in the same price range. After move here you will realize that location is everything in Hyde Park. PM me if you have specific questions.
  2. Can anyone comment on the reliability/availabilty of the wireless network on the campus? Also, do things like chalk etc. work pretty seamlessly? At my undergrad the system went down daily and some of their network products were pretty cumbersom to use, so I was wondering if Chicago has similar problems.
  3. In addition to what ILuv said, there are two more reasons for requiring research experience. 1) PhD’s and academia in general are very research intensive. Having research experience lets them know that you understand what you are getting yourself into. 2) Experience in a lab suggests that you will be familiar with processes, programs and protocols, and therefore, easier to train so that you become an asset to your PI in a shorter time period. Research experience means different things in different contexts, but keeping the previous two points in mind should help you recognize “good” research experiences.
  4. Bando, I PMed you check your message center.
