yes yes, me too, i'm going freaking nuts all of a sudden. i can't concentrate on anything. this blows. there should be a law.

i did the same, but somehow still ended up with indiana on my list. something about the mid-west seems so friendly. but now that i'm all done applying i wish i had applied to every school in the country, including alaska, just to get in somewhere.

over the weekend i convinced myself that i would survive if i didn't make it into grad school and had to spend the rest of my life working 9-5 for some rich, dumb bastard. this morning i got to work and realized that if i do not get in, i am going to have a complete mental breakdown and spend the rest of my life in an asylum. on another note, to pass the time whilst waiting i am: 1) engaging in martha stewart-worthy cooking sprees during which i make enough gourmet food for 5 thousand people and freeze it all. 2) refreshing my email and staring at my cell phone, willing it to ring with acceptance notifications 3) calling/emailing all the people i've meant to call/email for the past 10 years 4) annoying my girlfriend with my anxiety and moodiness 5) drinking 6) watching every episode of lost (a horrible, mind-numbing show. but it sure does have a lot of episodes and thus kills a lot of time) 7) lamenting the fact that i am wishing part of my life away 8) aimlessly wandering the streets 9) staring out the window 10) getting pierced

i know exactly what you mean. i still haven't heard from some schools i applied to in September on whether my file is complete, whether they've received anything at all, etc. - and i've been emailing and calling since October. i've decided those schools will be my last choice, if i end up with a choice (knock on wood). my blood pressure is rising. i guess it's a little normal to flip out when you have no idea of where/how you will spend the next 5-7 years of your life but know that you will find out soon... or that soon you will be screwed and will spend the next 5-7 back at starbucks (working- not drinking delicious lattes). but for now, i'm going to try and relax for the weekend. there's no need to flip out when i'm not on the clock for it.

i'm trying to be zen. i now have to limit time spent on this board because the night before last i stayed up all night worrying about it, wondering what people were posting, wondering if i would get in, when, where (well- who cares where- just let me in!)... my name is pleasegodletmein, and i'm addicted to grad school forums. i've been clean for... whoops.

i would try not to wig out about it too much. in fact, you probably shouldn't even look at it again at this point. how could you not hate something you've read 50 zillion times? even the best books/papers in the world would become sickening at that point. my own statement of purpose now makes me want to vomit. your statement is probably good, if you had your recommenders look over it.

i'd be psyched if i got into one good program in the same town where my partner gets in, that funds big time- that's all i need . i don't think any of my anthro programs have interviews. thank god.

emory women's studies. my app had been in since september. i only found out so soon b/c i knew they notified of interviews in mid-jan so i emailed the secretary to "double-check that my app is complete." she emailed back that they'd decided who to interview on the 15th and i hadn't made the short list.

thanks- me too. i was hoping to get funded for it, though.

maybe i should have put glitter on my applications, or attached winning lotto tickets or something. this whole process seems to make no sense. but- i'm psyched about all you who got into non-safety schools and hope (knock on wood) that the same happens to me.

thanks for the offer . i've applied to a couple of MA programs but mostly PhD. All of the PhD programs require one language + stats for me to move onto dissertation research. i'm hoping the admissions committees will consider that i'll have a couple of years of coursework before going off to do research, and will become fluent during that time. fingers crossed. i'm having some fun with learning Spanish, though i'm living in Miami right now and the Cuban accent is so horrible that I have to pretend it's not really Spanish to keep myself interested in studying. (sorry to all the Cubans out there, but it's true).

yes, i'm going to have to go on a lot of fake "vacations" this spring if i get in anywhere (knock on wood) to check out the towns where i might be living. where shall i tell my employer i'm off to? peru, perhaps? does anyone actually tell their boss that they've applied to grad school, or are my girlfriend and i the only compulsive liars "planning to stay with the company for at least two years or so"?

definitely form your own opinion- to some folk, Providence is the "big city." to me, it's just a tad better than afton, wyoming (population 899).
