  1. Hi all! I'm not a proper PoliSci kid, but I'll very likely have class with some of you, so I thought I'd pop in. (By virtue of being interdisciplinary-ish, I have no home, and so wander around, waving at everyone ) Have any of you received communication about orientation, etc? I apparently need paperwork to survive, so the all-online thing is making me nervous (that, and drooling over the course listings is way more interesting than studying for finals...)
  2. Hi Baki! I'm afraid I can't comment much on the international student side of things, though I imagine that most schools have some method of recalculating/translating your current work into the American system. (For literal translations of your transcripts and such, they'll usually want you to provide a certified copy, and they'll specify whether or not you need to muck about with changing the grades to "American.") What area of Security Studies are you interested in? It seems like many schools lean towards a specific type of security studies - Security Policy, or International Security, etc. You'll want to make sure that the school's coursework is related to your area of interest. Also, you may discover that defining your focus actually gives you new options outside of what is strictly termed as "security studies" - for example, I'm primarily interested in terrorism in the FSU, so I applied to area studies programs, as well.
  3. Posting on behalf of a friend (who is apparently too lazy to get her own account)... Has anyone heard anything from Columbia Classics yet? It's been complete radio silence for us thus far, and my friend is getting antsy. There doesn't seem to be anything on the results board past an interview, but data on Columbia seems pretty scant in general. Argh!
  4. ^Oh no! I called Tiffany Swanson's direct number, and the phone did some weird, but when I called SSP general, I just got the answering machine. I am definitely naming my rapidly-forming ulcer after Georgetown...
  5. I wouldn't count yourself out for money just yet - they did initially tell us that we wouldn't hear until next Friday, so maybe they're doing this in waves or something. I should've been clearer - there was no mention of funding in my acceptance letter (the snail-mail edition of which only just arrived on Friday, as well). The funding was a separate e-mail. Then again, my acceptance letter also indicated that my deposit is due April 24, but I think others on gradcafe were told the 15th? Maybe I'm just floating in some parallel Georgetown universe? (That might explain how I got in in the first place!) How are y'all planning to cover costs? I really, really want to go to SSP, but I'm *very* concerned about my ability to pay.
  6. Has anyone else received funding information from GTown SSP? I just got my letter via e-mail (I've been on a campus visit, and stayed away from my e-mail), and I'm quoted two different amounts of funding within the one letter. This is pretty important, as the difference may well determine whether or not I can afford Georgetown... I know I need to contact the folks in charge of this, and I'll be doing that shortly - just wondered if this happened to anyone else? I can't decide whether or not I should be celebrating right now :?: Alternatively, if anyone knows a guy who knows a guy who might be interested in funding my degree, I'm open to suggestions.
