  1. I am not sure how admission committee verify what applicants write in their resume. I am attending few workshops that are quite expensive, but very significant to have them in my file. I was thinking that one can put these stuff (summer schools, workshops) on his resume when his he/she is applying for graduate schools without in fact having them as part of his education. I am quite aware that when you attend summer schools and workshops, you learn a lot and that is the main point, but just wondering how the admission committee makes sure that what you are saying is true! when we apply, esp. online application, we are required to upload only our previous degrees, sample of our work (if applicable), and CV etc. but not the papers that certify out attendance to summer schools and workshops. Any idea? Thanks in advance.

  3. Thanks Engali, I saw that comment in the Amazon too, and now that I see you have done the same with such a great result, I would definitely follow the same study pattern too. That was really helpful. Thanks again.
  4. Hello everybody! I have got master degrees in philosophy and Artificial Intelligence (specialization cognitive science). I got no background in psychology (except some general familiarity with issues such as perception, origin of concepts, basic neuroscience), and I have decided to take the Psychology GRE subject. How to you see my chances of success and possibly what books do you recommend? Your comments would be really helpful. Thanks
  5. Thanks for the comments. As you guys mentioned, the rate dramatically differs from school to school. One of the schools (in europe) wait listed me. When i inquired about my status in the waitlist, the professor who had interviewed me said that I am at the top of the waitlist and if anyone drops out, I am in. It is nearly three weeks now and I am still waiting at the top! I phoned to the admission office today and asked about the rate of acceptance. She said almost all of the admitted students accept the offer! If that is the case and they know it (statistically), what is the point of having a waitlist? This is comparable to what is going on in the states, where some schools even have two sorts of wait lists; a 'waitlist' and also a 'short waitlist', transferring students from the former list to the latter, making the waitlist quite sensible and dynamic.
  6. Any idea about the philosophy department at Central European University, its rank and admission rate? Comments are greatly appreciated.
  7. Any idea about the average acceptance rate of admitted students at graduate schools in the States or europe? I mean, what percentage of (phd level) admitted applicants typically accept or drop their offer? If we know where we are in the wait list, this may help us to figure out our chances of admission.
  8. Thank you. Though it may seem quite unprofessional, I may call them and ask about the acceptance rate!!!
  9. Hi ANDS!, and thanks for your comment. It seems you are correct. I am on the wait list now. I emailed to the professor who interviewed me and asked him about my status in the list. He said he is glad to say that I am on the top of the list, and if anyone drops out, they are going to offer the place to me. The bad thing is that this is a fully funded program in europe, and for some unknown reasons I feel no one is going to drop it. Anyway, thanks again for sharing your guess
  10. I had a pre-scheduled telephone interview (for PhD application) two days ago. I was interviewed by the most well-known professor at the department, and it took exactly 30 minutes. we had a pretty warm conversation from the start, then he asked about my research interests. As it was quite a friendly conversation, I asked him 'how many positions are available this year?' he said 8, and i again went one step forward and asked 'have i got any chances?' he said, 'we only call to serious candidates, but i cannot guarantee'... I felt quite happy after the interview. Still haven't heard anything from them! How do you see my interview? Thanks
