What is the current evidence against it? I don't know much about the hypothesis actually, except maybe that people realized RNA has many interesting catalytic functions and think it could have originally served the role proteins do now. Self-splicing introns...man, that is insane.

lol, I understand. I realized that in my earlier posts I was being impatient. Now I am trying to do homework and experiments and not worry AS much about NSF (but I am still here, so obviously I am thinking about it enough)!

I'm pretty sure someone posted earlier that they called and found out that NSF might not notify us until the 15th. I think one can be lenient and consider that 'early April.'

I wonder what Friar Tuck is up to... NSF is just a protein, N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor. Maybe NSF needs accessory factors to help it carry out its function of listing the award recipients. Or maybe the NSF message is unstable and is rapidly degraded. Whatever the explanation, "It's a outrage" as Rachel from As I Lay Dying would say. -Bill

Yeah, I guess having potential advisers lined up is important. How do engineering phd programs typically work? For biochemistry, we rotated in three labs before choosing a thesis lab.

if I had applied and received this fellowship last year, and if berkeley or harvard agreed to reverse my rejection, that would have been awesome. Seems like it would be an awkward situation though...I'm not sure if it would be more awkward for me or them though.

has anyone seen boogey man 2? they played that on sci fi channel the other day. i was surprised, it was scary (at least to me...) bleh anyone else devote a pretty significant chunk of their life to writing this NSF proposal? At least for me it was the first big thing outside of college and grad schools that I have applied for. dude, i know people on this forum said they applied to berkeley, right? Wasn't that application insane? Not only did they have a section asking if you have any patents, they ask you to LIST them, and provide like 20 SPACES!!! needless to say, i was not surprised to get that rejection letter. anyone still in on getting a pizza?

hmm, i know it sounds unlikely, but based on people's earlier posts, maybe they would reverse the other person's rejection if it turned out they had external funding? that would be cool.

Unfortunately I don't, but that would be fun. my phd program supports me, so funding is not absoLUTEly necessary for me, but it would definitely give me more freedom in my research.
