  1. Do we pay for student health insurance using the stipend from NSF GRFP or the university covers it for us as a fellow? To any current/former fellows, please let me know.
  2. Hello fellow grad students, I am also heading to Cornell for PhD in math. I submitted my response in late March and I've recently received my netID, like a week ago! Also I will be in Maplewood, stress-free for first year housing
  3. So it is a possible plan. You can't apply for DOE CSGF if you are on another major fellowship. But the trick works for NSF GRFP and NDSEG, that is to apply on your second year and if you are awarded, then cancel your current fellowship and will have your new fellowship for the next three years . I hope both NDSEG and NSF do not read this
  4. ' Just email NDSEG, they'll tell you what to do.
  5. Comparing to your GRE scores, mines are much worse. V: 146 (31%), Q: 164 (91%), W: 2.5 (4%). But hey I still win a national fellowship (NDSEG). So I don't think GRE is a deciding factor in fellowship applications as you can tell. I am still in shock that I got the fellowship given how competitive it is.
  6. You were right. It opened but is now closed. They were updating I think.
  7. Well, at the end of year 2 of NDSEG I will just cancel, not defer, the fellowship given that I get the NSF. I am kinda lazy too, my future grad school actually offers me an additional fellowship for my fourth year (equal the amount of NDSEG). On the other hand, it's kinda nice to also win the NSF GRFP
  8. I am in some way having a similar question. I am a recipient of 2012 NDSEG and will start my PhD in fall 2012. Can I apply for NSF GRFP beginning of my second year while on NDSEG fellowship? I plan to if receiving NSF GRFP, I will stop NDSEG and switch to NSF GRFP. What do you think? This way I will have five years of fellowship
  9. I am on the same boat as you are. But I will only tank one graduate course, either B or C. I don't think it matters to me now. However, I thought differently a couple weeks ago. A couple weeks ago, I did not get two out of three fellowships that I applied (these two are less competitive than the third waiting one, but the first two themselves are crazily competitive). So i thought I had no chance of getting the third one. Then I was thinking of what if I apply next year and my grade looks bad with B or C in graduate courses. I was sweating. Luckily more than a week ago, I found out that I won the third fellowship that I applied for (most prestige and most money out of the three so fuk YEAH!). So now I don't mind of getting bad grades as long as I don't fail it. If I do fail, I wouldn't matter much I think. I am all set for graduate school now! So the moral of my story is that if you are going to use your undergraduate transcripts for future applications then try to get your grades up as much as possible. My little 2 cents.
  10. applied to all phd programs: 4 acceptances, 9 rejections including my dream school. But overal, i am very satisfied with my results. Do you?
  11. log in with email and password at http://ndseg.asee.org/award
  12. Go to http://ndseg.asee.org/award and log in with your email and password. You SHOULD DO IT QUICK, today is the DEADLINE.
  13. In the award letter, they stated that there were over 3000 applications this year.
  14. I am starting my PhD in Mathematics next fall. I am very fortunate to win a national fellowship in addition to receive my university's fellowship. So I will be living off my fellowships for the next four years with average living stipend $31000 (for 12 months). 5th year will be teaching but annual stipend will be much higher than now (23k/9months).
  15. I couldn't find a list of 2011 awardees. Is there anyway you can find a list of NDSEG awardees + where they come from? I googled but hopeless.... The list on NDSEG website did not have all the information i am curious about.
  16. According to NDSEG award package, you can work to get extra money but not to exceed $5000 a year while you're on fellowship. Stacking two major fellowships or two major sources of income is a NO NO. Hope this helps.
  17. I am waiting for their freak'in email. I am still in doubt of receiving this fellowship.....
  18. I think so according to the thread of NDSEG 2011. I am lucky to be one of those who can log in and it has been so amazing. Keep your hope up for those who are still waiting.
  19. They updated the website last night and I have not seen any changes since then.
  20. Yes. You should try to log into https://ndseg.asee.org/award and my field of study is mathematics.
  21. I have not received any email from NDSEG but being able to log in and accept the award = 90% sure I am in. I am so ridiculously happy and it's like a dream coming trueeeee
