Yeah, thanks for the perspective. It is easy to put too much hope into one thing. As for some of the political rumblings, awesome, I feel the government should definitely offer as much support to native PhD students as it can. We need to have the best researchers in the world to keep a strong position in the future flat-world. However, I think almost anyone wanting to get a PhD can get funding, just not always at the school of their choice.

That is kind of the same as the place you have your waitlist for just rejecting all the waitlist people and making up for it the next year by accepting more. It just wouldn't be fair to the people on the this-year waitlist.

I don't think they want to create a "real winners" pool and a "second winners (cuz we got extra cash) pool." It would probably hurt the "prestige" of the award. To tell you the truth, the prestige is what I want the most. GRFP is on the top of your cv for your entire career. It is like being pre-vetted for any position, grant, etc. This still isn't the most historically late that it has ever been announced.

No, no... We all know that this forum is 100% unproductive. We are jumping to conclusions only because we don't have anything else to jump to. I think of this as more of a group therapy session, complaining and whining together is better then doing it alone. My girlfriend compared it to reading about celebratory gossip. "Except sadder, because it is about science people n' stuff." oh well...

We have people telling us that they have lists at their departments, and we have people saying they already found out they were accepted (from their review sheets.) I have trouble believing that "nothing has been decided yet." I bet they are trying to get more award spots and the paper work for that is taking longer. If that is the case we should just hope it is as slow as possible. The longer the time the more awards. At least I'll try to think of it that way...

They should have said "April 15" just to keep us all sane. Even if they put them up early, the hard date would keep us from thrashing around.

I was wondering if they were thinking of the "html hack" and not just the general posting.

Last year I could see the list online a day before I got my email.

This was all part of a behavioral science applicant's research proposal.

Give him a break. He doesn't have anything to gain by lying. I appreciate any news, thanks.

Well, some people are really chummy with their departments. If my department got the list, I wouldn't be surprised if it leaked to some advisers early. Around here Saturday is catch up day, there are always some grad students and faculty around. But, we are speculating on a couple of words. What else are we going to do with our time

Yeah, it sucks. I want to be happy for the winners, but it is hard when you are also just blindsided by the fact that you lost.

If departments are already getting the lists then they might post them on Monday...

Last year, I got my email on April 2, I know I looked at the results on the website on Apirl 1. One of the professors at my university was saying that "they were really behind this year" with everything. Hopefully not looking at historically late results.

I just want to be ready... last year I found out that I didn't win by walking in on someone's celebration party. My scores were almost the same as her's but I got a HM, difference a point; unless there was some diversity stuff at work. I think I made a even better argument, have a lot more research, outreach, and publications on there this time... I guess only time will tell...
