  1. I got into SVA today. All of this seems so unreal. When Pratt rejected me, I thought that I didn't have a chance of getting in anywhere and would wind up editing porn to make ends meet. Now I got into a great program and I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop. congrats pointedears on your acceptance to Calarts! Jps, I should tell you more about my work, because right now I'm in such a tailspin, I don't know who to accept. I work in new media, mostly video, some sound work. I also do video and fiber installations as well as tactical media. I have an ongoing tactical media project now: http://www.reversetourism.blogspot.com/ Although I did visit all of the schools that I got accepted at, I kinda wish I could visit again to make sure that I'm making the right choice.
  2. Thanks Portafoy. I was just thinking about that. I really don't know which I'll pick, because they are all so different. MCAD and the one on one mentorship vs SMFA with group critiques, Tufts and credit review at the end of the semester, or Parsons, which seems like there are a thousand directions that I can choose from. I don't know about funding for SMFA yet, but I got the same amount from MCAD and Parsons, which makes it tough since neither covers tuition. Parsons is a smidge more expensive tuitionwise, and NY is definitely more expensive than Minneapolis. I still don't know. Once NYU, RPI, SVA and Concordia make up their minds, I think I should be able to choose more efficiently. Parsons wrote that they want to know by April10th. Has anyone had any experience in asking for an extension from any programs?
  3. I just got into Parsons! I have no idea how I am going to pay for grad school other than loans. I got some funding..but not enough.
  4. Congrats! So far It's a no go for New Media, Film and Video. I'm still waiting for Art and Technology to say yea or nay and of course the other schools.
  5. I'm torn between trying for an internship, working doubletime to get a full time and a part time job to get money to relocate or taking French. If I get into Concordia, the French will come in handy in Montreal.

    Funding

I am extremely worried. I only have the aid offer form one of my schools and it currently doesn't cover tuition, never mind housing, food and other necessities.
  7. Congrats xaviercugie!
  8. Welcome avocadogelato! I'm still waiting on schools after a flurry of activity last week. I'm not waiting on the same exact schools, but I'm hanging in there.
  9. I've heard from Concordia's Art department on 3/8.
  10. Congrats pointedears! I knew that you'd get in!
  11. Congrats cookiemonster!
  12. No prob. Hang in there! Once you get your first acceptance, your anxiety level will go down! Promise!!
  13. Nope, postal mail. I just got another letter with scholarship funding from MCAD today. They're pretty different from each other. MCAD is almost entirely postal mail, SMFA a combination of email (notification of interview), postal mail for follow up and a phone call for my acceptance.
  14. Thanks everyone. I visited MCAD in February and was trapped on the road for 9 hours in a two mile stretch of road, and the experience combined with only being allowed a tour when I got there, left a bad taste in my mouth. However, I had already submitted my online application and they do have nice facilities. I am a bit anxious about the mentor program, but I know that the Graduate Teaching Assistance program is great and in line with what I want to do. I'm currently doing my Post-Bacc in Tampa Florida, so I'm done with wearing flip flops all the time and not having four seasons. I grew up in New York and and did undergrad in Western MA, so I miss the area. I'm trying to weigh my options carefully and I'm still waiting on five schools( six if you include Concordia). pointedears, MCAD notified me via mail and SMFA called me the day after the Interview.
  15. Convince the people ahead of you to not go to your school of choice? I'm #2 at Concordia, so I'm waiting to see if anyone drops out.
  16. I don't know exactly what they are doing, but I feel like Pratt definitely laughed at my portfolio. SMFA apparently reviewed it and then passed it to my interview committee and we watched part of it while I chattered happily about my work.
  17. I don't know either. I'm in a similar boat with Concordia, except I know my position on the waitlist. I just don;t know how funding will work out, especially since I'm an international student.
  18. Welcome pointedears! My interview at SMFA seemed to go well. It was two faculty members and a grad student. At the interview, it seemed that either I missed some key information about the program and it's grading methods form the website or something. I was pleasantly surprised and think that it's a good fit. Hopefully they will agree. I also got my first acceptance today from MCAD. Finally, some validation.
  19. Thanks stomachcramps and cookiemonster! Pratt sent me an official letter. Kinda mean spirited: "In making our decision, we weighed carefully all of the application materials which you submitted to us. In comparison with the other applicants we have had this year, your record is not quite strong enough to be given favorable consideration." I'm still waiting on MCAD(Minneapolis), SAIC(I can get two whole separate rejections from them...joy) and haven't heard anything from Parsons yet.... I hope I have good news in the mail tomorrow. Good luck! I went through multiple stages of self doubt, especially when Pratt sent such a harsh letter. It was like they had voiced all of my fears in two sentences. Now after reflection and eating a cube of fudge, I realize that I still have a lot going for me. I hope that you all don't let rejections do you in. Nolite te bastardes carborundorum!
  20. Disaster, rejected at Pratt. Bad things come in threes, yes? Rejected Pratt, CMU and Waitlisted at Concordia. It'll get better right?
  21. Waitlisted at Concordia University. Thankfully I'm #2 on the list. Now I'm worried that I'll get rejected by SAIC too. I applied for the Art and Technology department and the Video, Film and New Media department. :crosses fingers: I hope my interview goes well tomorrow. Wish me luck!
  22. I heard from Pratt that decision letters would go out on April 1st. I hope that they were pranking me with that date.
  23. I can't believe that Carnegie Mellon went through the trouble of verifying my address to reject me. good thing that I have midterms to study for. Otherwise I would bellyache about this all day
  24. Hi cookiemonster, I got a letter from SAIC a few weeks ago stating that decisions will be mailed out six to eight weeks after Jan 15. That's roughly last week through next week. So far no other information from them.
  25. I have an interview at SMFA in Boston. Apparently I made it to the finalists position. I really have to practice a bit more to make sure I don't make a serious blunder.
