  1. Here is what I've heard from a friend who lived there: Best place is near Locke street. Westdale is nice, and James St North is up and coming but a little sketchy. Do not live anywhere east of James St! Any Mac graduate students know of shared housing?
  2. I'm looking for a place as well. Someone told me to check out West Village:http://www.westvillagesuites.ca/ I think I'd prefer to live in a house with two or three grad students. Any suggestions where to look? I've been looking at Craigslist and there is almost nothing there...
  3. I agree with you wholeheartedly. It's all abou the poeple.
  4. I'm seriously considering Mac...my other offer is from McGill so you can imagine I have to convince myself quite a bit! Has anyone lived there? What is it like?
  5. thank you so much guys. you raise great points. I will certainly ask McGill. I feel like they are seeing me as a "lowly student" as I'm sure other people in the department have secured funding. The norm is that top programs don't offer much funding at the MA level, but again great students do get it. I have two years of full-time research experience so I will try for RA work.
  6. I am so troubled by this decision. School A is McGill with a great reputation. School B is mcmaster with a good reputation. McGill will give me no money and Mac is offering a scholarship and full TAship. Can I ask McGill to reconsider my funding decision? I have extensive research experience and can be a great RA. Should I contact individual profs myself and secure my own funding? This is for an MA in economics btw. Thank you for the suggestions!
  7. I'm going to do my MA in economics and I want to start reviewing/studying during the summer. Ive been out of school for more than two years now, and I took calc about 6 years ago! I am a bit nervous about the intensity of the program and I want to get started ASAP. Any suggestions on how to prepare?
  8. I would say SFU. York doesnt have a good reputation after that long and messy strike and ongoing campus assults and violence. They may throw money at you to get you in but after that there is very little financial support (the exact opposit of UofT). I dont know the programs but I know for sure that many people around me wouldn't even apply to York.
  9. Hi everyone, I'm stuck between McGill with no funding and mcmaster (economic policy) with $15k in scholarship and full TAship. I don't know what to do. I think mcgill's reputation is better than mcmaster especially outside of Canada, but I don't know if that's worth $15k. Aside from the dollar value, mcgill's unfunded offer signifies how they value my application which kinda bothers me. I have more than two years of research experience and I dont see why I can't be an RA. What do you think I should choose? Should I try to bargain with McGill at all? Thank you so much!
