can someone explain to me the purpose of the online SSHRC CV in our portfolio? Many thanks!!
-
I have been checking all day today, nothing is up on sshrc'S website.
-
seems like many are getting waitlisted...this ma sound like a stupid question, but out of the total nr. of applicants this year (don't remember the exact number ) so lets just say 1900, the 950 get accpted, the rest get outright rejections. So where do the waitlisted ppl fit in..under accepted or rejected..how does this work?
-
I am in Germany..hoping it will get here either Friday or Saturday...its not so bad...you might even get it earlier than me :-)
-
If I get waitlisted I will tear up the damn letter. ..either outright rejection or acceptance,. no grey zones..no more misery....hopeful for next year!
-
I would love to discuss and debate some sshrc stuff while we all wait for the results, but nothing comes to mind...
-
Canada Post says 4-7 business days to reach the German lands.....fingers crossed for FRiday!!
-
yes
-
weheeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....max 7 business days until the letter reaches Europe....one week. I trust all of you in Canada will post their results ! :-)

DAAD is not exactly easy to get...I know a few people who had very good proposals and were rejected time and again...when Iapplied three years ago during my MA, all I heard was 'don't worry if you don't get it'..and similar. Noone was expecting a success. Difficulat to say which one is easier to get - DAAD or SSHRC - the only good thing about DAAD is that they don't care much for phD as continuation of MA projects or MA as continuation of BA projects..they even encourage that I'd say.

I am always amazed when people in their first year of Phd Studies, or going into their first year, write that they have so many or, in fact, any publications. Of course it varies from discipline to discipline, Im in history so it is incredibly difficult to get anything published... So you guys actually described the breakdown and content of your chapters in proposals? interesting!
-
I did not know that they keep everything on file for so long and can actualy tell when someone applied, with what, and so on. Initially I thought my chances were alright..Im an external candidate and did not even expect to be forwarded. I did not even abide by their paper size requirements, so the February letter came as a big shock. As to the actual application...I thought my chances wre better until I read that they don't like phd projects being a continuation of their MA. And my professor played that part rather strongly in his reference....

Just curious about the moods on this forum..of course I know one can not forsee whether the application is successful or not, but, without being too pessimistic or too hopeful, what do you believe, are your chances of getting an award this year?
-
I think that instead of just idly waiting for the results, we should either get to work or speculate on our applications...:-) Any suggestions for a topic?
-
I have a mountain of work but somehow can't motivate myself to anything bc of this sshrc..let the results come in next week..let the results come in next week..regardless of their outcome...sigh
-
I think I have already come to terms with the fact that I will be rejected...so I wait less eagerly at my mailbox...however, this forum still remains a highly entertaining read :-)
-
fromw hat I gathered from older SSHRC posts, apparently it does not make a difference whether one has a MA sshrc or not..it also seems highly unfair that those without this award have better chances of getting the Phd Fellowship, so being funded by SSHrc twice. Sigh...think im stressing out too much over this, I did not even expect being forwarded to the national round...the closer to the release of the results, the more panic stricken everyone gets I suppose...even though the fate has already been sealed ..so all our speculations make no difference whatsoever
-
after reading all these posts..I think I need a drink..just reread my application, need another drink...do you all have many distinctions/awards/ scholarshpis which you noted on your application?
-
what I did is used my MA as a foundation, and built on it...expanded the topic per se, by adding numerous new aspects to it..new threads...what i did for MA is only a drop in the ocean of what I want to do for my Phd..but it might not have come cross that way in my proposal....
-
well then I guess there goes my chance of getting anything...weep..weep..weep ***********
-
the money would be so great to get.....have any of you framed your topic as a continuation of your MA? or is an entireylly different topic? Apparently they don't like the same topics fot both MA and Phd..is that true?
-
ughhh.,..the closer it gets the less confident I become in getting anything..somehow* now it seems I did everything wrong, could have done 1001 rthtings differently.....think I need some holidays after all this stressful waiting, sigh
-
hello hello...I emailed SSHRC yesterday about change of address, did not ask ANYTHING about the release of the results. They were nice enough to write back and inform me that ''The results of the Doctoral competition will be mailed out next week at the end of April 2012.'' Somehow I do not have the feeling that this waiting will extend into MAy....so..I think, 2 more weeks of waiting, max. For ppl on both sides of the Atlantic. Good luck!!
