"Access to your rating sheets will be available in the next
several weeks. You will receive an e-mail with login information
as soon as the rating sheet site is open" <---- from the NSF email
For those who applied last year, did you have to wait several weeks to read the rating sheets? Does that mean for those in limbo, the funding decisions won't be made for weeks?!
gah! so confused! :? well maybe I can corner my advisor tomorrow and see what he thinks... If nothing else, perhaps I can call up NDSEG and see if I can postpone my decision until Friday.
I went ahead and accepted my offer from NDSEG, but I am also concerned about this in case I do get offered an NSF GRFP as well, since I am already in my second year of grad school. Wouldn't even being offered the award still be worthy of being put on your cv, even if you don't accept?
Yeah, you're right, I'm probably overthinking this. I was just thinking a little too hard about one person's response to learning I had been offered the NDSEG, which was to say, 'Oh. Well NSF is more prestigious."
Your wife enrolling at another university does seem like the best option, if that's possible; that way, she would likely have her own student insurance and be able to work on the side. Also have you contacted anyone at Northwestern about your situation? Certainly they have dealt with similar issues before and can give you some advice. Does Northwestern have any graduate student housing available? Some universities have reasonably priced graduate student apartments, so that might be another option to look into.
Is there anyone else who has been offered the NDSEG and is still waiting to hear about NSF? Since it seems rather unlikely the results for NSF will be posted before Tuesday, what are you guys planning to do? Obviously it would be stupid not to accept the NDSEG without even knowing about NSF, but on the other hand it would be nice to know about both before I have to make a decision!
Didn't a lot of kids who were applying to Harvard a couple of years ago get denied admission because they hacked into to see their results early? Am I the only one who thinks it's a bit questionable to try to log in to find out early?
Does anyone know if you can defer the NSF for two years if you are already in your second year of grad school? Which fellowship do you think is more prestigious, the NSF or the NDSEG?
