New on fastlane: Due to the complexity of the current budget situation, the 2009 GRFP awards will be announced in installments based on fields of study and other factors. The first installment is now available on FastLane. Awardees, as well as Applicants not recommended for funding, have been notified by email. Recipients of Honorable Mention and any additional Fellowship award offers will be forthcoming. Applicant ratings sheets will be available after all award announcements have been made. We thank you for your patience.

Yeah, I guess if I had to choose between rolling awards and waiting like this, I'd go for the rolling awards

I think that although that would put most of us out of our misery, it would certainly create a distinction between the "first round" fellows and the "second round". And yes, everyone knows that NSF is only going to give the awards to extremely qualified people, but I'm sure that would linger in my thoughts...

It's clearly just denial. I can't stand the thought of putting so much energy into waiting and still being disappointed. I am going to will myself a fellowship!!

I can't help but thinking "omg they are going to give out so many awards EVERYONE is going to get one." So not true

The longer we wait, the more unrealistically optimistic I become.

Yes, I have also resigned myself to the fact that I sit on here every day for about a week and am still no closer to knowing anything.
