Agreed. When you are in a program, the people you compete against are also your friends and colleagues. It's hard to be greedy when everyone is working their ass off.
I agree especially with your final point. I am currently a graduate student in the social sciences. I was offered the best funding at a school I turned down, and I have an RAship currently at my top choice school. NEITHER were $30000/year, and both require work on projects other than my own. GRFP frees up time to read and research and finish your degree in a timely manner.
Is this really the best they can do? Tell us "Early April" after passing the time by which the results would be posted and now its April 6 and nothing more specific? Come on.
the nsfgrfp.org ratings sheet page hasn't been working since those lucky few saw their results. Also, the "check your application" link just directed you to the fastlane site. None of this really means anything.
Would they seriously notify them before us? Annoying. I don't want to learn I didn't get anything by getting a congratulatory email about someone else in the department!
It would be very helpful if they just picked some date and told us that they would release the results then. I would rather wait an extra day knowing EXACTLY when I would know than sit around wondering all the time.
Ok guys, this is seriously too much. I just want to know so that I can move on with my life! I'm pretty sure I will be a no, but this waiting with no definite end is KILLING ME
