  1. Hey bit of a long shot since you haven't logged in for over a year, but do you still have those old GRE practice tests?

  2. Do you know what schools these people attended? I was assuming few PhD Chemical Engineering programs (probably the low ranked ones) would want to fund a BS Chemistry student with no Chemical Engineering knowledge and risk that student into their PhD Chemical Engineering Program.
  3. I have a BS in Chemistry. Is a PhD in Chemical Engineering possible without first getting an MS in Chemical Engineering? My GPA is only 3.1 because I was diagnosed late with ADD which I did not get the DSP services until I almost graduated. My last 2 quarters, I had a 3.9 GPA so I felt like I would have done better had I received DSP accommodations sooner. I do not want to get a MS in Chemical Engineering because most MS are unfunded and I already have 15K in student loans from undergraduate. Is a PhD in Chemical Engineering possible if I apply to a low ranked program and take undergraduate chemical engineering classes while still in the PhD program? Is this even possible? I am low income, so only PhD funded programs will work for me.
  4. I have a BS in Chemistry with a low GPA 3.1 due to undiagnosed ADD. My last few terms where I got DSP services, I improved and got 4.00 GPA, but my overall was still 3.1. Is a PhD in Math possible with high Math Subject GRE and high General GRE Math score?
  5. I have exams from 1982, 1990, 1995, 2000, 2006. Do you want me to upload them?
  6. I have a few old Chemistry GRE exams from 1982, 1990, 1995 as well as some ETS drill questions. Would you like me to upload them on a torrent engine?
  7. Do PhD Chemistry Programs (but I guess other graduate and professional schools also) get suspicious when you try to increase your GPA by taking 5 units of research letter graded units every term? Most professors are nice to their undergraduate researchers so they just give them 5 units of A's even if all they do is grunt work like cleaning beakers and stuff. So I think that is unfair especially if you go to a school that gives Pass / No Pass units for undergraduate research.
  8. When I send out the email to ask how a second author publication can impact admissions, do I send it to the chair of the Chemistry Department, the Professor of Interest, or to someone else? Ideally, I would send it to the chair of admissions of the committee, but I heard they keep this information top secret as well as rotate admission committee members every year.
  9. When you went to visit the PI, was that PI at your undergraduate school or at least driving distance from your undergraduate school or hometown? I don't see any other way on how you can visit a PI in person.
  10. What are some examples of schools that consider a second author publication as a deciding factor? How would I go about finding this out?
  11. What is the impact of a second author undergraduate publication for PhD Chemistry applications? Can it circumvent a low GPA of 3.0 (a B average) when applying to some schools let's say ranked 25-50? My Q GRE is 170, and Chemistry GRE 830. Basically I am interested in materials chemistry like thermoelectric materials, batteries, etc. I'm applying in Fall 2012 for enrollment in Fall 2013. Can anyone help me out? What would my safeties be? I heard in graduate school applications, it is hard to define a safety. So far, I only have 1 publication.
