Hi All, I woke up this morning with notification that I received a fellowship offer. I dont usually post on this forum site, but I just wanted to let people know u can message me with questions. I applied for medical anthropology. I have not looked at my rating sheets yet. As far as the application, I did not submit GRE scores, first year grad student, no publications but several presentations. Congratulations to those who received an offer and good luck to those who will apply again next year.

Wow this is a very powerful and encouraging thread. I think sometimes it is easy to put yourself in a corner/box and think no one else struggles with what you struggle with. Mom...single parent...six children....worked several jobs to provide for us...high school education. I went to a prestigious and costly undergraduate institution, mainly due to very generous scholarships. I am determined to get my PhD no matter what. My family baely understands what it will take for me to get there, but they are most certainly proud of me! I am the one who was "always going to make it" according to them! My sisters and brothers have all done well for themselves: 2 older sisters: nurses; 1 brother: paramedic; 1 brother: trained/licensed barber; and my younger sister: graduating undergrad this year! Not bad for a single mother with a high school education! But I think I am working on erasing the stereotypes and stigmas from my own brain because I think sometimes I think people see inadequacies/deficiencies in me because of race/class, but in reality, I am the only person who sees it.

Well if u do call, please post...I didnt think to ask why they only sent out "some." Im wondering if it was because there was a problem with those people's contact info or if it was because they sent emails only to the winners....last year they didnt do the email thing from my understanding....

I called this morning and the person who answered said they sent out "some" emails as backups but everyone will receive notification by mail....I dont know what that means.

I applied for JKC...however, I received full funding+stipend from the university I will be attending, so I guess that means I wont be competitive. I was looking at the past recipients' bios, and it is very hard for me to think that none of those people got offered full funding! ....so I dont know about that clause that says if you have full funding u will not be competitive.

Congrats to all who receive the Ford Fellowship! Judging from the fact that you all received emails by now, I am doubtful that I received it and will now go to bed! Goodnight and Congrats!
