  1. Hey All, I just wanted to inform you of the provincial criteria for scoring, which may give you all an indication of how SSHRC does it, especially for those reapplying next year. It's in French but I posted my translations in brackets. Dossier universitaire [university dossier, likely transcripts, conferences, publications, etc.] (6 pts) Aptitude et experience en recherche [Aptitude and experience in research area] (6 pts) Qualite et interet scientifique du projet de recherche [Quality and scientific interest of the research project] (8 pts) ------ (Total on 20 pts)
  2. SSHRC score is 11.950/20 with a Category B in the social sciences (not saying which sub-discipline) which makes me wonder if I was one of last to get it. Not complaining. I'll take it! I also just found out I received the provincial one, with a score of 17.80/20. Funny. It was the exact same proposal for both, so different committees value different things.
  3. Oh, right. I wonder then, if others who heard by email and/or a person first were told not to say anything?
  4. All this varies according to the particular universities. Some let you keep your internal awards, others do not, or at least have caps on the amount of internal awards you are allowed to keep when you win large external awards. TAships, also, vary according to school/department. Though, I imagine if you win a CGS you might not want to do any TAing if you can avoid it! Some internal fellowships are contingent on TAships, so again, it would depend.
  5. Until we receive our letters, we don't know a lot of that information. When I lost the last two years, the letter listed my score, number of applicants, number of winners, etc. So far, all I have is one email from the graduate awards office telling me that I won. The email lists no other information, and the person who sent it said all the details would be in the SSHRC letter. Also, for those curious, the email from my school does not state to keep the information secret. I gather that my department knew at the same time that I knew, as they were cc'ed in the email. If the email had said to keep quiet I would have.
  6. I did not put it in the proposal. But didn't the form itself have an expected completion date? It was so long ago I cannot remember. My university puts deadlines for all PhDs at 6 years, though people do go over.
  7. The graduate awards office emailed me: I won 20K x 3yrs. My stats: Second year Phd, in the social sciences 2 publications, 2 invited/in progress (I have a narrow specialty) A dozen or so conferences, half are prestigious, the other graduate conferences. Multiple guest lectures on my specialty, for academic and popular audiences alike. 1 teaching gig 7 TAships 1 RAship Do not yet know my score for this year, but the last 2 years I was also shortlisted and scored just a point or two below the winning scores. Anything else? I have been lurking on the forum for the past 3 years, and this year I finally won. Perseverance kids! Don't lose hope!
  8. It has. The fact that SSHRC doesn't email has been stated at least a dozen times in this thread. Whether or not you hear by email varies from school to school, department to department, according to the variety of responses here from last year, on twitter, and word of mouth from past winners. My guess is that schools (usually the graduate awards office) know the day that SSHRC mails, and then have the option to email their winners or not. It makes sense when the schools are trying to recruit students, and some students are waiting on this news to make their decisions for where to go. It really should be sooner.
  9. Those who are emailed are done so from their departments or graduate awards offices, not SSHRC. Last year in my school, the winners received emails, but not the losers! It was torture to wait for my (rejection) letter.
