  1. Something is awfully weird. I was rejected by Oxford a few months ago from their MPhil in Modern Chinese Studies. Seeing as how it was my first application for postgrad study, I was a bit naive about things and I was in a much weaker position academically than I am currently now. What is weird, however, is the fact that Oxford has a list of open applications; in other words, Masters programmes that are still open for applications. Modern Chinese Studies just so happens to be one of them. Forgive me for sounding awfully rude, but I can't help but feel awfully jipped, always under the impression that the positions would be full up. Obviously, my application was probably not appealing, but I was wondering if isn't too crazy to contact them? Of course, I have to be very realistic about my options, but I nevertheless really want to do this subject and if there is even a sliver of a chance left, I would certainly take it. Of course, I might be completely and utter delusional. Thanks for your opinion.
  2. They sent me an email to head to my application website, where I had to open a link.
  3. I'm really sorry for what I now see as a rather emotional, nervous post. I guess I was extremely short-sighted when applying to postgrad study, and while I feel rather jealous of some of my friends who are going into postgrad study next year, perhaps maybe this is for the best. Taking a year out may not be as bad as I think, and maybe a few years in the workplace may make me better prepared to get into a really nice programme. Thanks for the support guys. I may have lost the battle, but the war is far from over
  4. Just got my application decision. They didn't want me. Where do I go now?
  5. What particular courses are you going to go for next year?
  6. Heh, at this stage a PhD is a bit heavy for me, and to be honest I was a bit clueless until recently as to what I wanted to do after Uni. I just picked those degrees since they were of interest to me, but my flatmate mentioned the Columbia/LSE programme to me and I was interested in that because I want to learn about a non-Western culture, since the History department here is extremely Anglocentric if not Eurocentric (that doesn't mean it's bad; the guys there know their stuff, but it's still somewhat very focused on European culture). At any rate, wish me luck. I still haven't heard from them and I'm hoping no news is good news.
  7. Well I'm an American studying in the UK and am in my final year of an Ancient History degree at the University of St. Andrews and I've applied to a Masters in Oxford for Modern Chinese Studies and Cambridge in Political Thought and Intellectual History. Unfortunately, both programmes rejected me, and so the Dual Masters in International and World History is the last application that I am waiting on. I am thinking of applying to other schools (that aren't due yet) in the event that falls through too, but this week and next I'm going to be extremely busy writing off my last essays. What programmes did you apply for?
  8. A lot of people might have gotten decisions already. I'm still waiting on mine at the moment.
  9. Congratulations, man! I'm also applying to this programme so I hope I'll be able to join you come next academic year!
