  1. I am also only aware of the rankings published in the Journal of Blacks in Higher Education. In case someone else is interested, I want to post the link: http://www.jbhe.com/latest/index020107.html
  2. I believe Harvard notified admitted applicants on 2/14. I was waitlisted on 2/15. I do not believe Yale has notified. In past years, they notified around the 25th. Good luck! (And if you hear, please post - there aren't too many of us around! I'll do the same.)
  3. Oh, sorry, I guess I was wrong for what I felt. You're right! Feel free to go ahead and get the last word (maybe make some jerk comment about me?). I'm done with this forum; these applications are stressful enough. Thanks for brightening my day!
  4. Wow, that's just plain mean. I wouldn't expect that from a moderator. Good luck to you.
  5. First, you say posting minimums won't solve the problem, then you say people with mediocre stats should know better than to apply. How would they know better? Because they had their application rated at applycorner? Is the fluctuation in numbers so great that it is not useful to post something like "In 2007, the lowest 25% of admitted applicants scored 1300 on the GRE and presented a 3.6 GPA"? Or, "In recent years, the committee has not considered scores below 600V and 600Q." Sure, we all can guess that Yale's entrance requirements are very high, but what about Stony Brook or Ohio? Good schools, no doubt, but what are the minimums for mid-range schools? We can't all get into Yale. Thanks for clearing that up. But we don't all have to waste $90 on applying there, either. Credit card bills are rough that way.
  6. Wow, Amanda, I think that's excellent news - must feel good knowing they took such an interest in your application.
  7. But I think HL's point was that, if such cut-offs exist, then why not post them, so that we waste neither time nor money on an application that gets cut during the first round (before things like "fit" come into play).
  8. Any one else apply for Af-Am? I saw a result for Northwestern. Wondering if that person is around and if anyone else has heard. Good luck everyone!
  9. Nomadism, congratulations! I'm so happy for you - what fantastic news! By the way, did your applyyourself status change - just wondering if that's a good way to keep track of my status.
  10. Thanks, Cornell for making the call. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I applied for Af-Am/History, so I don't know how this all works for me. But I'm sure I'll be staring at my e-mail all weekend, nonetheless. As usual.
  11. Congratulations to the person who posted the Yale acceptance. Good luck to everyone else who applied!
  12. I haven't seen an acceptance from Brown on any site. I haven't heard a word from them.
  13. Hmm..it seems that person had a personal contact from a potential advisor, though, last year, they accepted students on 2/16 and 2/17 (from what was reported on LJ and Yuster). So, maybe it's starting?
  14. Ohno - Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that you were rejected by B.U. Was it for History? In my case, I just don't think I had a good faculty match there - my numbers, research experience, etc. are very impressive, but that's obviously not everything. Does hurt though, no doubt. I hope we'll be able to share a common acceptance soon!
  15. Minnesotan, thanks for sharing the story. Exactly what I needed - Thank you.
  16. Yeah, I don't know. Never thought I'd come to dread the next few weeks. Just trying to focus on my current thesis work and enjoy it as much as possible. Thanks for the encouragement, though; it means a lot.
  17. First response, first rejection from Boston University History. I'm at a total loss. Can't really imagine a place like WashU coming through when BU passed. Very demoralizing.
  18. Rejected at Boston University by snail mail. This is terrible. Better luck to everyone else who applied!
  19. Has anyone heard from Boston University? I know they mailed notification letters for their first round of decisions earlier this week, but I'm wondering if anyone received a personal call/e-mail. It seems that most previous posters received decisions solely by snail mail, but the website states that admits receive additional notification directly from the department.
  20. They include master's and part-time master's students in those calculations.
  21. I know one person who was accepted to Berkeley - they were also accepted to Johns Hopkins earlier in the week.
  22. Honestly, I do not think the secretary at NW is particularly nice, so I'd cautiously take this as a good sign.
  23. Congratulations dmh! Are you the Minnesota acceptance? I'm very happy for you!
  24. It was fast, indeed. Last year, they made their first decisions on February 15. Today, they decided on approximately 60/210 (though some of those other 150 are incomplete).
