  1. Strangely enough, the last few columns of the spreadsheet are still there - I just re-entered my info on the line with my affilitation.
  2. Yes they can and this has happened to me! What happened in my case is that the financial aid office figured out my aid before they were informed about other funding I was recieving. My student loans were paid out to me. The fa office was finally informed about my other funding, figured it into my total award, and reduced the amount of loans I was eligible for. I had to repay the difference between the loans paid out and the revised amount I was eligible for. However, this difference was the amount of my other funding, so I came out even. At my uni there is a certain amount of funding students are eligible for which can be covered by various sources. For example, if they say the total cost of attendance is $20,000, they may say a student is eligible for $20,000 in loans. But if they find out that a student is getting a $5,000 fellowship, they reduce the loan eligibiliy to $15,000 to keep the total aid at $20K. If this the case with your school, after the dust settled, you should have received the same total amount of aid even if it came from different sources. Can you log into your billing account to see details about charges and refunds to your account? If not, a trip to the fa office should clear up your questions. Please forgive the lengthy repsonse...
  3. See you all back here in January!
  4. Well, all I can say is that this was the process at my university: 1. Our campus deadline was in the middle of September. I had to officially submit my application. 2. I had an interview with my campus committee. 3. The application was unsubmitted by my campus representative and I am now able to make changes to any part of the application, including the application form, uploading revised essays, etc. 4. I will need to officially resubmit my application by the official deadline, 10/15. I guess it works differently at different unis?
  5. Did anyone here have an earlier deadline than Oct. 15 because they're applying through their university? Hmmm... If I understand correctly, all universities have campus deadlines which are earlier than October 15 to allow campus reps or committees to review the applications. The applications are then unsubmitted to allow applicants to make changes before the "actual" deadline, October 15th. I don't think you can be required to do a final submission before the 15th (although I do think it is recommended to avoid any technical mishaps).
  6. Just to be sure, a reminder: Not only is the application submission on Tuesday 10/15, but "online application system closes at 5:00 P.M. EST." Don't want to see any heartache here after all of the work you have put into your applications!!!
  7. I just wanted to let you know that I contacted the Embark people about this, and this was their response: Question #45, on Page 5 of your application asks: Doctoral Degree: Do you currently hold or will you be awarded a doctoral degree? If yes, indicate date awarded/expected. The answer 'Yes' means you either have your PhD OR WILL BE awarded a PhD. The PDF preview has worded it slightly differently, but the answers you have provided are correct. -- Embark Support In other words, if you answer question #45 accurately, you don't need to worry about how it appears on the PDF preview, you are fine.
  8. No luck. Oh well. Best of luck to the rest of you!
  9. Thank you JustChill for expressing my own sentiments so eloquently.
  10. Yeah, hurry up already! Anyone remember what time of day notifications went out last year???
  11. I'm not sure what school you're attending, but it looks like you are classified as a "Teaching Graduate Assistant"? This may be relevant to your question: http://www.wiu.edu/graduate_studies/current_students/tax_questions.php *eta I see that this is on tuition waived over $5250, but I'm not sure what your situation is.

    Coa question

h22b24, I'm afraid it isn't quite clear what your question is. 1. Are you an undergrad? If so, your financial aid is likely to be different from most people here, who are grad students. Perhaps someone here with undergrad financial aid experience can help you. 2. What information have you received from your school's financial aid office? They will tell you if you are eligible for aid, including loans, to cover your tuition and/or your other expenses. 3. If the financial aid office has already told you that you are receiving aid to cover ALL of your COA, it is likely that the non-tuition aid will be disbursed to you in two equal payments at the start of each semester, as you say.
  13. Me too! Which is why I've been looking here way too often... You'd think that among all of these scores of people that are also checking in here, someone would have a shred of information for us?
  14. I think it must be the week. But I'm guessing it might not be until Friday - they sent out notices on Friday last year, anyways. Why Friday? Perhaps this is so people can't start calling them to ask questions right away?
  15. I suppose it's time to give up hope for notifications this week?
  16. FYI: I contacted my campus rep; this morning, she was informed that notifications will be sent out "in the next week or two."
  17. First of all, there is no way for anyone to know how you are using the money you receive. Unless you tell them. That being said, are you sure you are eligible for loans? I'm not really sure how this works with external funding. But usually, you can only receive funding up to the amount that your uni estimates to be the yearly budget. If your funding covers that amount, it's likely that you won't be able to get loans. If your funding is less than your school-estimated budget, you can take out a loan for the difference. For example: School estimated yearly budget $50,000 Your funding $40,000 Eligible to take out loan for $10,000 This is, of course, assuming that your school is aware of your external funding.
  18. Holiday weekend = bad timing for this, huh? Most administrative offices at my uni close early on Friday before holidays. This may mean a wait until Tuesday... (assuming that today is actually the day, of course) (edited only to correct typo!)
  19. If I remember correctly from last year's discussion, the campus reps get all the results on the same day (accepted, rejected, and alternates).
  20. Yikes! Someone posted this recently on Academic Jobs Wiki (http://academicjobs.wikia.com/wiki/Dissertation_Fellowships_2013-14): "I just received an email from my program coordinator saying that all award winners at our institution would be notified by this Friday (8/30/13). Hopefully that helps!"
  21. Well, I looked back at the thread from last year and notifications went out to campus reps on September 7th, which was a Friday. So, might it be safe to predict notifications next Friday, September 6th? Alternatively, doesn't anyone have concrete information about notifications??? There are sure a lot of people keeping an eye on this thread...
  22. Thanks for the solidarity, Hoppi. Of course you know that I was secretly hoping someone would show up here and say "Results will be announced Monday!" or something equally unlikely.
  23. Ugh. I hate the waiting. *sigh*
  24. Well, this may differ from school to school but it seems to be in line with the policy at my school. The financial aid office estimates the total cost of attending the school including tuition, fees, rent, food, transportation, etc. And then, all of your aid combined must not exceed this amount. Just as an example: If the total estimated cost to attend your school is $20,000 And the value of your fee waiver + stipend is $15,000 Then your loan eligibility is only the difference between the two, or $5,000 It sounds as though they originally offered you a larger loan than what they're now giving you? If so, it is likely that the financial aid had not yet been informed about your fee waiver + stipend when they initially told you your loan eligibility.
  25. I should have added that the application deadline was different last year, which may influence the results notification date...
