Reviving this thread - anyone else going to Columbia this Fall? I am entering their Neurobiology & Behavior Ph.D. Program.

Neuroscience Fall 2013 Applicants

I'm almost decided, but still sitting on it and hoping to talk to more PIs and students. Mainly, I'm drawn to a program because of several PIs that I feel strongly about, but unsure of the social atmosphere of students. -
Congrats! I got Columbia's as well! Officially heard back from everywhere that I needed to!! Decision time..

Did anyone here attend the 2nd Columbia Neurobio & Behavior interview weekend (Feb 21 - 22)? I was wondering if anyone had heard back from them yet. If you have, could you please let me know? I know that the earlier interview group heard back about 10 days after the interview, so it should be next week. It's one of my first choices, so I'm really anxious to know.
-
Has anyone heard from Columbia about the interview schedule for this Thur/Fri? This will be my last interview - homestretch!
-
Congrats! Seems like a difficult choice, as both are great programs
-
Acceptance to UPenn! 2 more interviews to go!! G'luck all!
-
I have been on 2 interview weekends and they consisted of interviews with 5 and 6 faculty respectively. After going through some of them, I feel like really extensive preparation is not necessary. I felt comfortable knowing enough about their work to engage in conversation, but many of the questions that I asked them were generated spontaneously.
-
I do know that they have 3 interview weekends; however, I don't know if they have sent out all the interview invitations!
-
I missed a call today because I am at another interview. When I googled the number, it was a PI in NUIN that I was interested in. However, she didn't leave a message. Very mysterious...
-
Did any posters, or lurkers here interview at NUIN last week? I am anxious to know whether they've sent out acceptances and rejections yet, since they said they'd get back to us within a week - please reply or message me if you'd gotten a response either way!
-
@stmwap - I think I am going to 6, and 7 if Columbia decides to invite me after that pre-Skype thing. I think most of my profs are understanding, but one is quite puzzled at why I need to go on so many interviews (I have a 2nd major that not in the Sciences). @NeuroTU - That is exactly what I think! Therefore, one of my new year's resolutions is to keep myself in good health - I'd hate to be sick or sleep deprived at any interview... Good luck on your interview at UVA next week!
-
That is great! Good luck on your 4 interviews as of now I only have one class on Fridays too, but all my interviews require me to at least leave on Thursday if not Wednesday... I have multiple classes on Thursday that are strongly dependent on participation :/
-
How many of you on this thread are current undergrads? I am having some anxiety about missing a tremendous number of classes.... Interviews are undoubtedly my highest priority, but I also do not want to fail classes in my last semester... Also, when is everybody's first interview?
-
Thanks! I hope to see you there too
-
I just received it too!
-
Thanks! I am still waiting for the email about Skype interview.... I wonder if it would be appropriate to email her myself to ask? By the way, has anyone inquired about whether UPenn is done with their interview invites?
-
I am an international student in the US - I have heard from the program coordinator last week about a Skype interview... She said I would get an email from the director, but I haven't gotten that yet.
-
I will be, guess I will see you there! ------- Has anybody else received a request for Skype interview from Columbia Neurobiology and Behavior? I emailed a while ago to the coordinator to inquire about my status and got an email on Jan 2 that I have been selected for a Skype interview and will be contacted to schedule it (have not received this email though). I am happy and puzzled at the same time... I thought this may be their procedure for international students, even though it should be clear that I am currently studying in the US. It also may be some kind of pre-interview? I am not really sure, but definitely excited to have an opportunity,
-
Congrats! When did they send out the email? As this is the second day, I guess this means they are done...
-
@ryancho - I am an international student, but doing my undergraduate studies in the US.
-
@tifoz- Thanks for the information! @gradschooloptimist7- I had one date conflict, and I decided to go to one instead of the other. One of them was lower preference, so it worked out. I believe that we can email the admissions coordinator to see if there is a chance for alternative arrangement, even if not explicitly stated in the invite.
-
@tifoz - Nope, I don't know of any invitations that Columbia has send out yet. UPenn is the one that's sent out some and apparently will send more in the future (thanks ryancho!). I hope Columbia invites soon and we both get it @ak1921 - I feel the same way. My mind is constantly occupied by interviews, visits, schools, and what not!
-
Thanks! Do you know, by any chance, when Columbia's interview weekends usually are?
