  1. Looks like we are the only people applying to Scripps. Please post any info if you hear from them :-) Good luck
  2. Good job! Your application to me looks very impressive. Even though you have some weaknesses in academic scores I think with your experience and success you beat all 3.9 GPA applicants. Good luck!
  3. My PI was on admission committee at the university that does not require subject GRE but strongly suggests it... As a matter of fact, he told me that since it is not required most people in admission do not even look at these score since they simply don't know what they mean and they have never seen exam itself. I guess 45% might look suspicious...But I don't think this might help you or hurt you in any way...
  4. I'm sorry but I don't understand HOW you got so many publications out! Not all PhD students graduate with a package like this. As far as I understand you don't have grad eucation. Did you take some time off after your undergrad?
  5. I'm on the weak side here...Just to make people feel more confident:-) Undergrad Institution: Public Ivy school Major(s): Cellular & Molecular Bio Overall GPA: 3.3 Position in Class: average Type of Student: International political refuge (US permanent resident) GRE Scores: Q: 156 (64%) V: 147 (24%) W: 3.5 (30%) B: still waiting TOEFL Total: 99 out of 120 Research Experience: 3 years at Vet school (non US) 2 years in the genetics lab (about 25hrs/week throughout academic year, full time during summers). Awards/Honors/Recognitions: 2 presentations at the international conferences with one prize for the best student presentation, 1 payed summer fellowship in the US school. Special Bonus Points: Pretty dramatic background, experience of living in 4 countries, minority in my homeland country, political asylum in the US Applying to Where: Scripps-FL - epigenetics, genetics Columbia - Pathology - Gene regulation in disease NYU - Pathology - Gene regulation in disease UF - IDP UMiami - PIBS FAU - Integrative Biology
  6. Hello everyone. I'm senior undergrad at the university of Michigan, majoring in CMB. I'm planning to apply to the graduate schools this year, but the problem is that my husband works in West Palm Beach FL, and this limits my choice, we've been apart for a while already because of my school, and I definitely want to be close to him during my grad school. Unfortunately there are not too many options in FL, so far I looked into Scripps FL and Max Plank (that just opened). A little about me: I'm not sure what I want to do for my PhD. I currently work in plant molecular biology lab where we study RNA interference and DNA scilencing. I like epigenetics, but I don't want to stay in plant biology. My other concern is that epigenetics involves lots of bioinformatics and genomics which I'm not good with. The lab I'm working in is the only lab I've tried, but I work there for almost two years and I spend there about 25 hours per week during school year and full time during summers. I have solid understanding of what science is and I know that I want to stay in research, however I think that for my PhD program I need a place were i will have a choice and an opportunity to do rotations in several different fields. I realize that geographical limitation is an obstacle, I would appreciate any comments or thoughts about Scripps Florida or any other places in Southern Florida or WPB area that I'm maybe not aware of.
  7. One friend of mine got her Masters in ecology from university in Russia. She has really good record from her school, and right after graduation she was invited to the University of Michigan as a research assistant. However things happened very unfortunate for her, her visa got expired and University couldn't extend it once it was expired, and they couldn't keep her. So for about three years she was taking odd jobs, trying to survive. When she eventually fixed her status, she took GRE (got only 50% on english part, keep in ming english is her second language), and still got accepted to University of Iowa. You should definitely continue your education. PhD program will keep you employed for about 5 years plus will make make your future much easier.
