  1. I thought since it is getting to be that time we should have a forum on where people are going? where are you turning down for possible wait list people? etc? I am nearly 100 % sure I am going to UCSB for social psychology, just waiting on a few final schools to respond about funding. Will be turning down: Northwestern Social Kansas Social George Mason I/O
  2. I got a fully funded summer internship to go to Lesotho, Africa for 8 weeks to implement a program I designed to educate high school students about HIV/AIDS, human physiology, and the gendered nature of the epidemic. After that I guess I will be working on finding a place to live and spending time with people before I leave them for good.
  3. I have been accepted to UCSB for social psyc and I was contacted at the end of January for a phone interview and had a recruiting visit at the beginning of march and was accepted shortly after. I dont know which program you are applying for, but my impression is that most people who have been accepted have been informed and most who have been rejected have also been informed, so perhaps you are waitlisted or you will hear something soon. Good luck!
  4. No word from Harvard still.....anyone heard anything? Also, anyone else gonna be at UCSB for social psychology this coming weekend (3/6)?
  5. I have been to 2 of these already. Meeting with 5 or 6 faculty is really the norm. You don't just meet with your POI because the faculty want to get a feel for you from different people's perspectives and its good for you because you get a lot of perspectives about the program. These meetings may seem kind of scary, but they really arent. The faculty like you and want to get to know you, you wouldn't be there if they didn't. They don't try to stump you with their questions. They typically ask what your research interests are, what you've done, why their institution, etc. They will also give you the opportunity to ask them questions both about their research and the program. Don't stress...do look into the research of the people you are meeting with, but dont worry too much about it. You will do fine. Good Luck!
  6. So I have been invited to interview at school X in social psyc and I got this email from one of my POIs Dear Owlettkh: I am very much looking forward to meeting and chatting with you at our visitors weekend in March. Since my research is focused on intergroup emotions I was particularly interested in your work on trust and of course group identification. I am sure that you will have many good opportunities for graduate training given your excellent credentials and training, but we look forward to the opportunity to try and encourage you to come work at School X. We have many excellent faculty who are expert in the areas you're interested in, and I for one would be very pleased to have you working on my lab. Here's a little more information about the visitor's weekend, and I look forward to meeting with you. Please say hi to (one of your recommenders) for me. best POI Now I think this is a good sign since this POI is now the third prof to contact me, but how much should I read into this? I mean it sounds like the interview is just a formality? Am I right? Thanks!
  7. Hey, It looks like we have a lot in common. I applied to 13 schools so here are the ones I know about. I am also interested in Stereotyping and Prejudice broadly as well. UCSB: interview (i guess i will see you there) U Kansas: Accepted Northwestern: Interview (2/22) Brown: interview (2/15) George Mason (I/O): accepted Yale: Rejected Stanford: top 25 but no interview invite (guess that means I am out...oh well it was nice to make it that far)
  8. Hey all, I thought there ought to be a social psychology forum since I have seen just a few scattered comments here and there. Where have people applied to and what have you guys heard?
  9. Princeton which is ranked #7 in my field only accepted 2 people! I doubt that is even a 2% acceptance rate....I was apparently #3 on their short list...
