  1. Know anything about the above programs? Please help, I really need some input
  2. Yep, I applied for MIA, and I suppose I'm looking for other programs like it. That is, programs interdisciplinary in nature (not too political or economic... but naturally featuring some components of both). Does that make any sense?
  3. Hi, thanks for dropping by! I'm primarily interested in MA programs (sorry for not making this clear) How would you say Sweden is for those? Thanks!
  4. Hi lecorbeau, thanks for stopping by! In case you might now have any insight into the application process, I do have a question for you. Like many others, my MIA app has been pushed from the 1st (early) to the 2nd (regular) admission round. What do you think are the chances of people in my situation? Does it ( A ) mean that people who did not get rejected will likely get in during the 2nd round, unless some really extraordinary people show up or ( B ) Does it simply mean that we will have the same exact position as anyone else applying to 2nd round... but then again, if we were weak candidates to begin with, wouldn't we just get rejected right away? So anxious......
  5. I'm trying to figure out what's the value of some lesser-known* European Masters IR/IS/Poli-Sci programs. If you know anything about them, please help... I'm looking for two factors, Prestige - the "brand" ... is the name respected or even recognized internationally? (1 to 5 stars) Actual Quality - how is the actual quality of the program? (1 to 5 stars) Please rate! ALSO feel free to elaborate rather than just give a rating! Gold starts for first hand experiences Diplomatic Academy of Vienna CISD at SOAS Aarhus University University of Amsterdam Stockholm University Leiden For an aspiring diplomat from Eastern Europe, would these be worthy backup alternatives to the LSE/IHEID/S.Po type institutions... or are they not worth it? Would it be better (in case of getting rejected from top schools) to wait for next year and work on improving my CV? Many thanks everyone, I really mean that! *lesser-known, NOT to say bad. I know they are good. Please don't feel offended if you go there! Edited to specify that I'm looking for MA programs!
  6. Thanks so much for all the input guys. I will certainly look into all the schools you mentioned and see if there's a fit. I have one more question: I am currently a dual-citizen, and I keep thinking how stressing one nationality over another can either help or hurt my chances. I am both American and Slovak. So here's the thing, money aside, would it serve me better to "sell" myself as an American trying to study in Europe, or as an Eastern European with an American BA trying to study in Western Europe. People on these and other forums have repeatedly claimed that S.Po and other top European institutions are easier to get into if you are American. BUT, I would also assume that there are even less Slovaks applying to schools like that than Americans. So, assuming that these schools are indeed shooting for a ton of diversity, what might be better? What do you guys think?
  7. I know IR seems to be the "it" thing at the grad forums, but I hope you will bare with me... I've been looking at various forums and rankings and I see that the IR discussion always focuses on the US/UK programs... I'd say 80-90% US programs are listed as the "best in the world" with maybe 10-20% in the UK. First of all, why is that? Second, what are the BEST programs in continental Europe? This is what really interests me. The only names I really hear mentioned here are: Siences Po (Paris) and HEI (Geneva) How do those MA programs compare to the US/UK ones? And what are the other programs worth mentioning in CONTINENTAL EUROPE? I hope some people smarter than me WILL voice their opinions here. I'm counting on you guys! Ps. I should mention that my aspirations are not quite of the UN/IMF/CIA caliber. I'm just trying to find my way to a job with the local ministry of foreign affairs or diplomatic corps... and/or maybe something EU related (Czech or Slovak).
