  1. If I'm not hearing back from the student services manager, is it appropriate for me to contact someone else like the registrar/director of graduate admissions? I don't know what the issue is, but I've received no response to my 3 emails / 1 call, but I really need to know UNC's decision before I commit elsewhere.
  2. No call back from Veronica yesterday or today after I left a message, so I sent another email. I am, to be honest, extremely frustrated at the lack of communication here. Berkeley, Penn, and Columbia all got back to me within 24 hours of a message during the application cycle. We pay money to have our applications handled in a proper manner ... at this point, I just want to know that they made a decision, regardless of what that might be.
  3. I did email and call Veronica Stallings, but I haven't received a response yet. I'll try again today, I suppose. Thanks for your help guys!
  4. Still waiting on UNC for a decision for the Biostatistics MS program. I've both emailed and left a message with the contact they list, but I haven't heard back. Does anyone have any information about them? I've gotta make a decision soon.
  5. I was accepted to both of these programs as an MS student. I was wondering if anyone had any experience/knowledge about these programs (size, rigor, course offerings, placements) or if anyone knew someone who might let me ask a few questions through email about the programs. I'm trying to make the most informed decision about where I'll end up next fall.
  6. UPenn biostats seems to be releasing decisions; I received mine yesterday. Hope that helps!
  7. My application was submitted through SOPHAS in mid-December.
  8. Got into Columbia just now for Biostatistics MS. No mention of funding, but that's not really surprising to me. Pretty excited though, it's my first admission ! (:
  9. 6tZSoKE3FTnq, mind telling me where you applied? Yeah I'm really hoping that the no news is good news thing turns out to be true.
  10. Anyone else hear back yet for decisions? Still nothing on my end, unfortunately.
  11. We have similar stats and goals and I feel the same way. One good thing is that I read somewhere that it's good you haven't heard from UW yet, as they're sending a lot of rejections out in late January. I also applied to UNC, Berkley, and Columbia and haven't heard back so hopefully that means something good for both of us !
  12. How did UNC contact you? I heard from JHU in December and UW today, both rejections. I'm waiting on UNC, UPenn, Columbia, Berkeley and Harvard.
  13. Alright this is what I had assumed, so it's nice to have my ideas confirmed. Thanks for the info!
  14. Does anyone know the time frame for hearing back about MS decisions? I'm seeing a lot of PhD replies on the results board for biostatistics but I can't really figure out if decisions go out at the same time as PhD ones or if it happens kind of randomly. Thanks for the help!
  15. I applied to all masters programs which is different than the rest of you, but I was notified fairly early on (mid-late December) by postal mail that Hopkins had rejected me. Not sure if that helps, but there you go.
  16. I'm starting the application cycle for *hopefully attending graduate school next fall, but I'm running into a few questions that I hope someone can answer. I have an interest in both statistics and biostatistics, but I'm not sure which I'd prefer so I'm applying to schools in both fields. I'm pretty set on only applying to masters programs; I have no interest in a phd. Financing them isn't an issue, but I don't really have a clear idea of where I can get in and where I should be aiming. University: One of the largest public universities in US; stats program is pretty small and has been in a lot of flux the past few years Degree: Mathematics, BS in the honors college GPA: 3.63; lots of B+/A- in most of my upper division math courses, and one C. will take two grad courses in stats this year. Internship/Work: Summer Institute in Biostatistics Mathematics / SAT / ACT Tutor ~ for a national tutoring company "Research" in Math Ed ~ a lot of data cleaning, transcription, and admin work; am technically a paid worker on a NSF funded grant though, but no publications Research in Bioinformatics ~ as a freshman, a lot of data cleaning, no publications Community Scholars program ~ did two projects fresh/soph year encouraging public health, a third my junior year encouraging aiding the homeless in our town Honors Thesis ~ will be on bayesian methods in sports analytics Machine Learning Intern ~ developing implementations in matlab of algorithms for a professor this semester Coach ~ of a competitive academic team at my old high school (paid position) Honors: National Merit Scholar Recipient of another well-regarded school scholarship Research Funding Grant from School of Life Sciences Letters of Rec: I think I can get a good one from my biostats/regression professor, and another good one from my professors at SIBS. The third will be weaker and will either be a pure math professor or my thesis advisor, who does not know me well, really .. I can also get one pertaining to my public health community service from a big name at my university. Below are a list of schools that I'm considering: [biostat] harvard uw jhu uc berkeley columbia umich uminn uwm unc chapel hill yale bu upitt upenn [stat] stanford uchicago uw harvard umich cmu ncsu upenn uminn uc davis ucla cornell bu northwestern Even though this is for a masters, location and flexibility are pretty important to me. I'd like to be able to take some electives in machine learning / statistical computing classes, although I'm not sure how common that is. Are any/all of these places reaches for me? Should I be shooting for lower in the rankings? thank you for your time and help!
