Thanks panda & derberggeist! I didn't apply to anthro, I applied to the animal behavior graduate group (but some faculty are cross-listed as anthro) and it seems nobody in the gradcafe universe applied to this program so I am really in the dark on what to expect.
As for your question derberggeist, the professor I spoke with at NYU said the "short-short" list people would be invited to campus (though someone mentioned above international applicants are still being considered without coming to campus) so I am thinking that for the rest of us, to be honest, bad signs are significant (p<0.05) (I am in this boat too). But you never know.
^ Did you guys above at the UCs interview? I am dying to hear back from Davis but so far nothing... I haven't interviewed either so at this point I feel like it is going to be bad news. However, if there was no interview for some other programs I may have a small glimmer of hope...
Oh, and I did post these to the results search except for GW which was the most recent in case any of you are crazy like me and are trying to match forum response numbers/result search numbers
Hey I've been lurking in this thread and figured it's about time to share what I know:
-To the person that asked about Wisconsin, I got an acceptance email from a professor in the anthro program about two weeks ago (specifically, I am bio anth) and they did not interview. But I haven't gotten anything official from them so maybe they aren't through everything yet? No idea.
-Informal skype chat at NYU but did not get invited to campus so I don't think I've made it to the short-short list (but congrats to the person who did and I think this is definitely a really good sign for you!!)
-Informal phone interview with Harvard HEB, POI was so kind but said the whole department will probably only accept 2-3 people (this was also my first interview and I was super flustered so idk how I came off...)
-Informal phone chat coming up at GWU
-Has anyone applied/heard anything from UC Davis animal behavior??? When do you guys start contacting departments?
Ugh, I'm bad at interviews especially when they aren't in person. Streesssss.
Glad to know that I am not the only one out there in constant anxiety and I hope it goes well for all of you!
Do visiting professors never take graduate students or does it vary? Basically, if there is a visiting professor I am interested in working with, should I contact her and ask or is the answer obviously "no"?
I am applying to grad school for anthropology (specifically biological/evolutionary).
I have a 3.8, strong recommendations, extensive field and lab work, and a 167 on the verbal section of the gre.
And then a 155 on the quantitative section.
For any other social science applicants, in your experience, does the quantitative section matter enough to "hold you back"? (am applying to 2 top 10 schools)
I know this is pretty specific but any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you!
