  1. Angrawa, I spoke with the UW Health Services PhD department last week. They apologized for the delay, and said I was on the waitlist and should receive my letter this week. I think this means that I was on the waitlist and now am officially rejected. I assume you'll receive a letter this week too. Good luck!
  2. EpiPhD--Thanks for bringing up the funding question! I was admitted to two departments in mid-Feb. The schools have only shared generalities about funding (like "all students will have an RA position for at least 2 years"). Funding will obviously have a pretty big impact on my decision, so I'm getting restless. I'm going to both visit days at the end of the month, and it would be helpful to know about the $$. One caveat, although I've been accepted by the department, I'm pretty sure the graduate school is still processing my application. Does funding information usually come after the Grad School confirms your acceptance by the department? I'm jealous that you've heard from UW-Seattle. Although I'm 80 percent sure I wouldn't go there (and about 75 percent sure they wouldn't accept me), they are the one other Health Services PhD program I would need to seriously consider.
  3. Well, I wouldn't want to offend you, jaw17...but how familiar are you with the UNC campus? I want to start looking at housing options, but know nothing about the area. Ideally, I want to be near the School of Public Health and also near coffee shops, bars, ect. Any ideas? Thanks!
  4. Thanks for the suggestion! Did you go to UNC by any chance?
  5. I was also rejected from Harvard's Health Policy PhD program. I'm not really surprised because most of their current/former students in my area of study had MD's. I also just received a very impersonal rejection from Yale, but at least they saved a tree (email > snail mail). Thankfully I have two solid options so far (including my top choice of UNC!). Best of luck to everyone else!
  6. Silence on my end from UW Health Services. I guess it's important to remember that it's still only February.
  7. I also have not heard anything from Harvard Health Policy. (i haven't tried to contact them since submitting my application). However, last fall I tried to contact the department multiple times and found it very difficult. My emails weren't answered for at least a month. And the response would be something like "I'm not sure if i've already replied to you, but if not..." I was very dissapointed with the communications skills of the department--I wonder if they are too innundated with applications, or if they only pay attention to students? Also, the GSAS website was hacked this week. I don't know if it will impact admissions decisions, but it probably isn't going to hurry anything up. Good luck!
  8. I'm interested in U.S. health policy, primarily access to and quality of health care for children.
  9. I'm seriously considering attending UNC this fall. For those familiar with the area, how necessary is a car? Also, is housing readily available in walking distance to the campus (Hospital/Public Health part of campus, particularly)? I know they have a great bus system, but walking distance would be nice. Thanks!
  10. I'm glad our field has found a home. Even within acadmia it's all over the place I have a question for the group. For the schools that have invited you to an admitted students day/weekend, are they paying (at least some) of your way? For me, WashU is reimbursing but U Wisconsin Madison is not. I don't know if anyone else applied to Yale, but the department told me the notifications would go out "very soon"--whatever that means. Also, someone in the livejournal community who_got_in posted that Harvard Health Policy PhD decisions will go out this week. I don't know who posted this, or how reliable the information is, so take it with a grain of salt.
  11. Do you know if the U Washington-Seattle conducts interviews for the Health Services PhD? Thanks! P.S. I don't think Public Health fits in the gov forum either. I'd create an independent Public Health category
  12. I'm also applying to PhD programs in schools of Public Health. These are mostly health policy departments. I've been accepted to U Wisconsin and UNC Chapel Hill; an interview offer from Dartmouth; and no word from Yale, Harvard or U Washington Seattle.
  13. I didn't apply to the Wharton Phd Program, but I did apply to programs with a similar focus. Did you apply anywhere else?
