gotcha, yeah mine said "aid amount: $20,500" which got me real excited, but then i saw it was an unsubsidized loan. bummer congrats to you guys!
-
is that the 20k Phillip Merrill Fellowship or a need based one? i just checked and they can only offer me a 20k loan...dunno where in the world id be coming up with the remaining 40k. oh well
-
id like to know too. i basically need to decided whether to drop $120k for SAIS, or around $40k for USC.
-
haha same here. i'd really hate myself for turning it down and going to a more local school, but im sure if i went to SAIS ill hate myself in 2 years knowing id be paying $900/mo to pay off my loans. here's to hoping for the fellowships i know i wont get
-
i agree wholeheartedly. coming from someone already 20k in debt from undergrad (having worked 3 jobs to ease the costs in school) and now anticipating the 120k+ fees for SAIS, i dunnoooo.
-
whats the percpetion of IDEV over the other SAIS programs? im going for a quantitative approach, with my initial intention being in development work but they only accepted me in SAIS, not IDEV. Would it still be worth it to go and specialize in their Intl Econ program and concentrate on something else?
-
they sent me an email with a link to the application login page. theres a link at the very bottom after you sign in that gives the decision.
-
i just got mine right now. by some grace of god i got it! but not in the IDEV program, they said I can choose any other concentration that id like. dunoo how that will play out in terms of job prospects and the like, but i cant imagine it to be a huge deal breaker.

why not community college? most offer macroecon -
i dont know much on Harris either than it has a heavy quant focus, so I cant comment on that. My impressions on USC though are very good, especially with job placement. They have a very positive career services dept and are really well regarding in the LA area, so if you are happy with the socal community, itll be a great bet. I only know this because I too got in with 1/2 scholarship and am contemplating whether or not to go. also the whole USC alum network is supposed to be really good. ive asked a few friends who went to USC and they all say that they got their jobs cause they went to USC as did their employer. USC alum like to hire USC grads and it really shows. i think that is a tremendous advantage since you will likely be interning anyway.

hey dinosaur, mind if i PM you with some questions? i just got into GWU for their international dev studies program, and being from California im not quite sure how it stands or what sorts of jobs are available for it. let me know, thanks

hope this hasn't been discussed ad nasuem, i did search and came up with a few results but... I just got accepted into the GWU Intl Dev Studies program (!), ideally to focus on development economics. I'm from California and was assuming id only get into schools here (I got into USC and UCLA for their public policy programs). How does GWU stack up reputation wise over in D.C.? And what are the job prospects like, is DC over saturated with students already? Are their better schools that recruit leaving GWU in the dust? I want to get into econ development sort of work, either public or private...wont matter so much right away. Just wanted to hear your thoughts on the school and if its a worthwhile choice Thank you

yeah no worries, i called her yesterday but she didn't pick up (busy im sure) so I emailed her and asked her if I can check the status of my app and thats how i got the info on my missing transcript (later we realized it was in a diff department and all was good)...they emailed me later that night (around 6:30pm) saying i got in. i'd try emailing her as she normally replies back same day. and although she said that are winding down the reviewing process, they are still going over 'em. good luck!
-
just got my acceptance letter today, got in stats weren't as stellar as most...3.4 gpa from UC Davis, 2 years exp as a photojournalist, 50-70th percentile on my GREs. If you haven't heard from them yet, I suggest calling because when i did we realized there was a hiccup with my transcript. best of luck to all
-
im curious too, but just remember that the 6th place ranking is for the MPA program, the MPP falls at around #12. also from my understanding, the USnews rankings includes alumni donations, which works in favor of USC.
-
yeah i am eagerly awaiting. heard back from USC but not UCLA or Irvine yet. without meaning to threadjack, what are you opinions and or impressions regarding USC and UCLA for public policy, for someone planning to study econ development?
-
how does this "begging for more aid" process go about? can you really ask for more and have a chance at getting it?
-
thanks

what are the stats on the deans merit scholarship...does anybody know how many receive either full of 1/2 tuition?
-
I heard back a few days ago. Got a letter in the mail box saying I got in! And I received a packet by the side of our house (too big for the mailbox) giving me 1/2 tuition with the brochure and all that fancy stuff which was awesome. Definitely needed the scholarship I couldn't afford it otherwise. I had the same issue as above where my app wasn't reviewed till late because of unofficial transcripts, so i dunno. Also for the camel password being your date, remember the format. its mmddyy, not mmddyyyy. my stats weren't marvelous by any means 3.4gpa GRE: V/158 Q/151 W/4.0 Work exp: Wasn't great either: had two big internships as a newspaper photojournalist and one research internship
